Marvel Studios Pursuing Three New Actresses?

With Marvel's Thor already in post production, the studio is gearing up to begin filming their next superhero movie Captain America: The First Avenger sometime in June. Their following film, The Avengers, which will assemble heroes from their past five projects, will begin production in early 2011.

AvengersNews.com is now reporting that Marvel Studios is looking at several popular actresses for one of these films. Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Alice Eve (She's Out of My League) and Rachel Nichols (G.I.Joe) are supposedly already in talks with the studio to star in a future production. According to their source the studio,

"... only wants one of the three and Malin Akerman and Alice Eve were said to be the front runners for the elusive Marvel picture deal."

Alice Eve was one of the final contenders for the role of Peggy Carter; but for undisclosed reasons that role went to actress Hayley Atwell. AvengersNews.com speculates that the mysterious role could be either S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter or the super heroine Janet Van Dyne/the Wasp. With script rewrites currently underway for both Captain America and The Avengers films, pinpointing the rumored character is anyone's guess at this point.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Alice Eve is the sexiest one...although Malin was in Watchmen so she has dabbled in Comic Films..and Rachel Nichols got a nice bust and could play she hulk because she was an orion girl in Star Trek, so she has been green before...boy this is a tough one.

@ Sydney-Agreed, Akerman would be best for Wasp from these 3. Not sure if any of them scream Sharon Carter at first thought though

I'm actually glad Rachel Nichols is not the "frontrunner" I like her but she's already part of Star Trek and Gi Joe.

Pietro, do you think Kevin's role is Captain Marvel? I'm starting to have doubts... I think he's possibly waiting to be told who he is. lol

I know you mentioned that sometimes studios will hire actors and place them in characters later. With all the rumors about his role (big or small) I have a feeling it's not finalized.

I dunno, Akerman seems a bit old for Carter.

I doubt Ms. Marvel would be in the first Avengers movie, but someone playing Sharon Carter or Carol Danvers as a SHIELD agent is very likely.

Wasp, Sharon Carter, or Ms. Marvel... ANY of those would be oh so sweet!

All this stuff is just plain AWESOME!!

As for the actresses, any of them would make a decent Wasp but out of the three my pick for either Carol Danvers OR Sharon Carter would have to be the lovely Alice Eve! Talk about classic beauty!

Probably because Black Widow's Russian backstory was inconsequential to Iron Man 2.

And agreed that Akerman is an awful actress. Her scenes in Watchmen were just hard to sit through. Marvel has gone out of their way to get acclaimed and award-winning actors like RDJ, Scarlett Johansson, and Ed Norton. Hopefully they don't break that trend by going for girls that straight nerds think are "hot".

Nah, Scarjo was fine. She was supposed to be "zombie-like". Tony even points out that she's incredibly hard to read.

Akerman on the other hand just did far too much "John!!! PLEASE!! YOU CAN PUT AN END TO THIS!!! WAAAAHHHH!!!" stuff for my tastes.

...and Wasp needs to be brunette and ethnic...not necessarily Asian like Ultimate Wasp, but not corn-fed American girl...her early incarnations were based on 1950's/1960's views of women...her later incarnations had her looking more vixen-like with a "blurred" ethnicity...so someone who is half Asian, half something else...or someone with Eastern European features would work...Wasp is NOT blond...and I don't see her as a "beauty queen" like a lot of the actresses that have been showing up...she's more of a femme fatale...someone you would want to take to bed, but at the same time have no problems with watching your back in a fight...
