Joss Whedon gives exclusive first comments on casting James Spader as Ultron to Marvel, revealing that the Lincoln actor was his "first and only choice" for the role. He also says Spader's voice can be "eerily calm and compelling", while also being very "human and humorous"..

In The Avengers: Age of Ultron Loki is gone and the new villain will be the evil robot Ultron, who has the ability to keep upgrading his own strength, making him extremely fearsome. Tony Stark/Iron Man becomes the unwitting creator of Ultron. The brother-and-sister team of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch become the seventh and eighth members of The Avengers. Quicksilver has extreme speed, while Scarlet Witch can cast spells and has telekinesis ability. Black Widow and Hawkeye will be key figures in the film.


The Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015.

Dammit! I wish we could get less of the Hawkeye and Widow and more of the actual Avengers that matter. Cap and Thor got screwed last time around, that needs to be rectified this time.

I believe what you are looking for in Ultron is someone with a calm and matter of fact tone deliver lines about destruction of millions of humans. But don't let him fool you, he's as crazy as a loon. Expect to hear "submit or die" in a way that only James Spader can deliver.

Btw, Blacklist is one of my most anticipated new shows this fall. Might be the best action/thriller on tv since 24.

@parissun Agreed about Spader immense talent and potential, and about Blacklist. I always love how someone is judged by who they are as opposed to their acting ability.

Side note, can't wait to see my good friend Jamie battle Spader in the Blacklist pilot.

Spader is gonna crush it as Ultron.

Having a calm voice will be awesome.

Remember Hopkins as Lecter? Never did he raise his voice, but he was the most terrifying villian EVER.

Hopefully Spader can tap into something like that.
And yes, Blacklist looks awesome.

I bet this movie gonna have a twist in it. I believe it will be that tony didn't created ultron its going to be hank. Then everyone gonna ask who is hank and that question leads to the ant-man film.

I think it's a fair complaint to be disappointed that Hank Pym is not in this movie.

I mean it is called "Age of Ultron" and you know, Hank originally kinda built Ultron in the original storyline.

Huh? Ultron is an artificial super-villain. Calm and compelling, I agree with. Machines are not emotional, and a super-villain should be compelling in a creepy sort of way. But human? That word shouldn't even be in the same sentence as Ultron - unless the word "shouldn't" is also in that sentence. See what I did there? :P

@soforizo Didn't say you have to be "Marvel's bitch". I'm Quicksilver fan so I'm happy about this, and he and his sister have been Avengers so it's cool. Plus, I think Marvel wants to flesh out Pym in his own sol movie instead of dumping him in the mix in Avengers 2.
