First off, I've seen the 2003 Daredevil movie and I have to say that I'm not a big fan of it. Daredevil, Elektra, and Kingpin were terrible miscasts and I think it was a poor adaptation of Frank Miller's run on the comic. However, I did enjoy Colin Farrell's portrayal of Bullseye. He nailed the psychotic part of Bullseye down. Anyway, the Daredevil reboot has been in development for a while with directors like David Slade and Joe Carnahan attached to direct. It was a matter of time before the rights reverted back to Marvel.
My take for a perfect Daredevil film is that it combines the noir aspects of Frank Miller's run, the grittiness of various 70s movies (e.g.
Mean Streets,
Taxi Driver,
Serpico), and the violence of
Watchmen.
Anyway, my pick for director is Nicholas Winding Refn.
Bronson and
Drive showed he had a particular sense of style that fits Daredevil very well.
Anyway, enjoy the cast:
Heroes:
Alex O'Loughlin (
Whiteout,
Hawaii Five-0) as Matt Murdock/Daredevil: An attorney who was blinded by a radioactive substance falling from a truck. Although he lost his sight, Matt's senses were heighten to a superhuman level. After his father's death, he used his new abilities to become the vigilante Daredevil. Daredevil posses a radar sense similar to echolocation, and can use his superhuman hearing as a lie detector by listening to changes in one's heartbeats. Daredevil is also a master of martial arts and uses a specially designed Billy Club that includes a thirty feet of cable connected to a steel cased grapple.
Reason for Castng: Being a fan of the new
Hawaii Five-0, I can say that O'Loughin has become one of favorite actors. He's versatile and has the talent to portray Daredevil. He also posses two important factors for DD: the voice and the rugged handsome looks.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan (
Watchmen,
Magic City) as "Battlin'" Jack Murdock: Matt's father, who was a famous boxer and always wanted his son to be a better man than he was. He encouraged Matt to study to become a lawyer or a doctor, and told him not to fight the neighborhood kids. Jack was murdered after refusing to throw a fight, which into turn inspired Matt to become Daredevil.
Reason for Casting: I was originally against the Morgan as Jack, mainly because I thought he was too much of an asshole for the role. However, after seeing his performance as John Winchester in
Supernatural, I was convinced he could pull off Jack.
Seth MacFarlane (
Family Guy,
Hellboy II: The Golden Amry) as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson: Matt's college roommate and best friend, who together found the law firm Nelson & Murdock.
Reason for Casting: I have to thank RoadDogXXIV for this pick. Anyway, this is probably all of your initial reaction to this pick:
First off, I don't give a flying [frick] if you like or hate
Family Guy. I could care less. Anyway, in certain episodes of
Family guy, he showed the certain pathos needed for Foggy. ANd he's also had success at playing a comic relief in another CBM,
Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Plus, this pick is better than seeing Sean Astin for the 1,000,000th time.
Abbie Cornish (
Candy,
Limlitless) as Karen Page: Matt and Foggy's secretary, who both men are in love with. Karen later leaves New York to become an actress, but soon became a heroin addicted pornographic actress. In need of a fix, she sold Daredevil's secret identity to a drug dealer.
Reason for Casting: Cornish played a similar role to Karen in
Candy: an innocent girl turned into a drug addict. She gave a great performance there and I think she would be great as Karen and have good chemistry with O'Loughlin.
Christopher Lambert (Highlander, Mortal Kombat) as Stick: A blind ninja sensei who trained Matt in the use of Martial Arts after his accident. Stick possesses a radar sense, acute hearing, taste, touch, and smell, telepathy, and the ability to drain life energy from another person.
Reason for Casting: I wanted to go with a Stick pick that's not Scott Glenn, so I decided on Lambert. He's a badass older actor whose voice and height fit Stick very well. And deserves another CBM role after being wasted in
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vegenace.
David Duchoveny (
Zoolander,
Californication) as Ben Urich: An investigative reporter for
The Daily Bugle. He has deduced the secret identity of Daredevil and uses him as a source of information (and vice versa).
Reason for Casting: The inspiration for this pick came from seeing him in
The X-Files and
Californication. If you need somebody that can spout off whip-smart dialogue, then go to Duchovny.
Julia Voth (
Bitch Slap,
Supernatural) as Elektra Natchios: A kunoichi (female ninja assassin) of Greek descent. She met Matt Murdock while she was attending Colombia University. HSe later became a love interest of Daredevil, but her violent nature and mercenary life style divided the two. Elektra is an olympic level athlete and expert in the ancient martial arts of China, Siam, and Japan. She is also a master combatant with her trademark Sai.
Reason for Casting: After seeing Voth in
Bitch Slap, I can safely say that she could easily handle the dark and violent Frank Miller Elektra. She isn't that bad of an actress and just needs to work out to gain the muscle mass, and needs to be trained in martial arts and the use of sai.
Monica Raymund (
Chicago Fire,
Lie to Me) as Angela Del Toro/White Tiger: A former FBI agent and the fourth White Tiger. Angela is a skilled martial artist, and uses the White Tiger amulet to augment her strength, speed, stamina, agility, dexterity, reflexes and reactions, coordination, balance, and endurance to slightly superhuman levels, and it gives her the ability to blend in with her surroundings.
Reason for Casting: I've enjoyed Monica on
Lie To Me and I think she has what it takes to pull off White Tiger.
Villains:
Vincent D'onofrio (
Full Metal Jacket,
Men In Black) as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin: One of the most powerful crime lords in New York. Fisk posses as a generous business man to hide his criminal activities. Contrary to his appearance, Fisk's body is entirely muscle mass built to his extraordinary size, making him posses great strength and durability.
Reason for Casting: D'onofrio is a fantastic character actor, which has given him the nickname of "Human Chameleon". He's also a big guy standing at 6' 3" and a half. Combine these two facts and you got yourself a helluva Kingpin.
Zachary Quinto (
Heroes,
American Horror Story) as Bullseye: A psychotic assassin who uses his line of work to exercise his homicidal urges. Bullseye is a expert marksman with pinpoint accuracy, and can turn any day-to-day object, such as pencils or paper clips, into lethal projectiles. His spinal column is laced with the indestructible metal alloy adamantium.
Reason for Casting: The credit for this pick goes to cardiakid, who's genius for coming up with it. In case you have forgot, Quinto played a creepy-as-hell serial killer with zero empathy named Sylar on
Heroes. He should be given a chance at Bullseye because he has the psycho part nailed down perfectly and has this disturbed quality to him. And hell no to Jason Statham as Bullseye. He doesn't have the charisma to carry the role and can barely hide his Cockney accent.
Timothy Spall (
The Damned United,
The King's Speech) as Leland Owlsley/The Owl: A fianicial investor turned crime lord, who battled Daredevil when he first started out. The Owl is a criminal genius and master manipulator and possesses enhanced strength, endurance, resiliency/resistance, reflexes/reactions, superhuman sight and hearing, razor sharp claws and talons, and can glide short distances.
Reason for Casting: Spall's a great actor, and has this creepy quality to him that fits the Owl, as seen in his performance as Peter Petigrew in
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban.
Timothy Olyphant (
Hitman,
Elektra Luxx) as Zebediah Kilgrave/The Purple Man: A criminal who had been chemically altered so that his hair and skin are colored purple. His body can emit chemical pheromones that, when inhaled or absorbed through skin, allows him to mentally control them.
Reason for Casting: Olyphant is a fantastic actor who's great at playing heroes and villains. It was mainly his role in
Live Free or Die Hard, where he played a despicable villain, that convinced me to cast him.
Christian Camargo (
Dexter,
The Hurt Locker) as Larry Cranston/Mister Fear: A former lawyer who went to law school with Matt Murdock, and the third person to take on the Mister Fear persona. Mister Fear uses a pheromone that evokes fear in people, and is administer by an aerosol sprayer. Cranston also uses a perfume that allows him able to influence other people, and also trained in hand to hand combat.
Reason for Casting: Camargo played a great villain in the 1st season of
Dexter, and would work great as a dark counterpart to Daredevil (just like Brian Moser was to Dexter Morgan).
Keira Knightley (
Domino,
A Dangerous Method) as Mary Walker/Typhoid Mary: A mutant assassin suffering from dissociative identity disorder. She posses the abilities of telekinesis (she can mentally lift objects under 10 pounds), pyrokinesis (she can cause spontaneous combustion to objects within her eyesight) and limited mind control. Typhoid Mary is in excellent physical condition. She has peak human reflexes and agility, and is highly athletic. She is also trained in the martial arts, particularly Judo and Zen-Sword. She has exceptional skill in wielding and throwing bladed weapons, and is usually armed with a variety of machetes and smaller knives.
Reason for Casting: The inspiration for Casting Keira was from seeing in
A Dangerous Method (where she played dangerous and crazy), and
Domino (where she played the kick ass badass). From those two roles, I guess she could play a pretty interesting Typhoid Mary. My only beef with her is her lack of Boobage.
And to l0rdleg0las: if you going to single out Knightley in my cast, and then bitch about her being "anorexic, frail, and having the body of a ten year old boy", please just shut the [frick] up. You're rude, you never have anything nice to say, and you bitch about the same things over and over again. This is what I think of you:
Maggie Q (
Priest,
Nikita) as Maki Matsumoto/Lady Bullseye: An assassin for the ninja order called The Hand, who was inspired to become a killer after witnessing Bullseye slaughter members of the Yakuza who were planning on selling her into sexual slavery. Lady Bullseye is a master of several martial arts, and is proficient in hand-to-hand combat. She is also skilled in the use of both the katana and shrunken.
Reason for Casting: Maggie is sexy, seductive, a damn fine martial artist, and can kick some serious ass. She covers all of the qualifications to play Lady Bullseye.
Vin Diesel (
The Chronicles of Riddick,
Fast Five) as Melvin Potter/Gladiator: A n accomplished costume designer who decided to become a professional criminal. Potter is a skilled martial artist and is physically powerful. His costume is heavily armoured and his gauntlets have two circular titanium blades, which both possess small rotors that rotates the blades at high speeds.
Reason for Casting: Diesel is a decent, yet underrated actor who's pretty badass too. He has the physicality for the role and even looks the part. He'd be great as Gladiator.
