Has The Biggest Cameo For The Avengers Just Been Revealed?

As reported earlier today, Jenny Agutter spoke briefly on her involvement in The Avengers. In that interview did she reveal a huge cameo? Hit the jump for the details!

As DCMarvelFreshman posted earlier, Jenny Agutter is a "council member" in the new Avengers movie. She stated she hadn't seen a script until she arrived on set. She also said that she saw a parking lot full of Winnebagos, one housing Spider-Man and the other Iron Man.

Spider-Man she says? Spider-Man as in owned by Sony while The Avengers by Marvel Studios on the same lot? Could this be the biggest cameo for a Marvel movie to date given away in an offhanded comment about Jenny Agutter's involvement? Spider-Man may have a cameo, or at least be alluded to setting him in the Marvel Universe.

It is possible that the a mistake was made by the Radio Times or someone misspoke, but that out of all the heroes that would probably be wondering around while Ms. Agutter was there she chose Iron Man and Spider-Man seems odd. She claims to have seen the trailers, which more than likely were marked on the door.

For a while at least, the Wolverine cameo in First Class was a secret but could this cameo be revealed already?

To add fuel to the fire, in November it was reported that Disney would be involved with the merchandising on Spider-Man while Sony would keep the film rights. Showing cooperation on this issue could further a Marvel U and Sony Spider-Man relationship. While it seems unlikely that there is a cross studio cameo allowing the web-head to live in the Marvel U, for now at least we have to take the article for what it is. The article as run in the Radio Times can be seen below courtesy of Bleeding Cool:

Wouldn't it be awesome if instead of this being the incoherent ramblings of a senile old woman, that Disney did an insanely under the radar buy out of Sony Studios? haha A guy can dream!

I think Disney/Marvel did have partial film rights a while back, but sold them to Sony so they could buy the merchandising rights. So I'd be shocked if Amazing Spider-Man is in the MCU.

While it's highly unlikely for this to happen, it's not IMPOSSIBLE. Marvel and Sony could have made a deal when Disney bought the merchandising rights from Sony. It would benefit both Marvel and Sony if this were to happen. Marvel would gain yet another established big name character for their movie and Sony would benefit by having this ease people into the idea of their new Spider-Man reboot.

Although, honestly, neither Marvel or Sony need the help. Marvel is riding off of the success of Iron Man, Thor, and Cap. Sony will make hundreds of millions just with the Spider-Man name alone. If it were to happen it would be just for us, the fans.

I have no idea, it could be and it might not. Interesting theory though!

On how I feel about it. I guess it depends, while I think that the suit could use some work, I have been giving it some thought, and I was thinking that dispite the departure from the orignal design (which is horrible nuff said) I have thought of a better "orign" for the suit instead of Pete just making it, (I could see webshooters, but not that suit, it looks deigner made something the webshooters don't look like) But anyway this is my idea for the orign of his suit: The suit is made at Oscorpe perhaps by Pete? At any rate become of some reason or another he may need it and come into possistion of it and wear it in his Spidey ID.

As I'm sure someone will point out, what is he sewing in the trailer? His webshooters into his costume. That at least is what I hope, it would be a perfect reason for the very high tech design of the suit and make perfect sense of why a guy is running around it a stupid looking suit.... :P Something Rami's version never explained. But oh well... not hating btw I LOVE Rami's version!

I have to agree with whoever said that she just name checked any hero she could think of.

Otherwise... I can't think of a costume, character, OR actor involved with this film that she could possibly mistake for Spider-Man.

But it would be fun, even if not a costumed Spider-Man, to just have Andrew Garfield show up to snap some pictures in the middle of the big battle.

Is it impossible for them to make some sort of deal for the actual film rights to stay with Sony, but still allow for the movie to happen in the MCU?

No, the woman probably doesn't know the difference between DC and Marvel, much less that The Avengers has Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Captain AMerica, etc. She just said it, she doesn't know whats going on. Besides Mr. Whedon has already said that there will be NO cameos.

@Supes seriously? That might lead to a JLA movie, I would cum on myself if that were true.

But anyways back on subject, it wouldn't fit. The Avengers have a huge battle in NYC, so where would TASM storyline fit in with this ?

Actually, if you read the article she is not directly quoted as saying that Spiderman is in the film. The most likely explanation is that the Journalist who wrote the story threw in two Marvel comics characters (in all likelihood, the only 2 she knows), as a little joke to round out the article. It’s an English magazine, so it’s likely they were, as the English say “Taking the Piss” a bit. No need to take it literally, folks. Funsies is all it is
