Superman needs an actor who can pull of the awkward, homespun nerdness of Clark Kent and the heroic Kal El aka Superman. Routh pulled that off pretty well even if the movie itself wasn't that great.

If ya put 6'5" Mangeniello as Batman up against
6'1" Cavill as SUPERMAN it would look ridiculous
on the big screen! Cavill is too short and small.
(I think he's exaggerating when he says he's 6'1".)
He's just too narrow in the shoulders and chest.
But I cast Mangienello as Batman cuz he fits there
the best.

Heck even Routh looks a little small to me and
he's way bigger than Cavill.

I wanna see someone with broad shoulders and
chest for SUPERMAN! At least TOM WELLING has
that! Of course he doesn't have the acting
ability for the big screen, darn it!

@LEEE and deadpool72...and that's why many people don't respect your Superman opinion. You'd choose someone that clearly has a more villain-like look for the role to spite actual Superman fans.

I think Joe would be a good Superman. Out of all the names being rumored, he's the one I've always liked. And Henry Cavill. My number one pick will always be Welling though :P

Joe could be a pretty cool Hawkman though.

Hmmmm, i think Welling needs to stay on the small screen when it comes to CBM/shows in general. Joe is ok but something doesnt fit to me. Routh i give maybe a 5 for his Ck & a 6 for Supes.

He doesn't look like superman. His face is to narrow. Welling looks more like superman than him and I hate the idea of welling as supes on the big screen. Just get a man that looks like a man to play the badass man that superman is!!

Instead of focusing on the body of an actor to play Superman(which nearly everyone is doing), how about focusing on the acting abilities. The director should get an actor who can convincingly pull off the two sides of Clark Kent AND Superman, regardless of their physique, and through a regime of dieting and excercise, build the actor into Superman (the way Chris Evans became Captain America springs to mind).

Anyway, here's to hoping Zack Snyder gets replaced by a better director ;)

I'd rather take the offspring of Cher with mule, no. Wait. Thats Tom Welling! I'd rather have him as Superman than that disgusting man. Henry Cavill and Rick Malambri still are the top contesters on my list.

RyKnow@ Because not everyone can put on bulk like Evans did. It all depends on one's individual physiology. I don't want to compromise either size or acting ability. There is is no reason to do so. Superman has a large physically imposing stature. They shouldn't risk casting a wimpy-build actor in hope they can put on the mass after the fact of being cast. Cast someone who is pretty much there already that can act. Someone like Cavill is too slight in frame to ever have a the physically imposing stature I would like to see in Superman. If some of you are happy with a Superman who can act, but looks wimpy...all the power to you. Not my cup of tea.

I just saw the Scott Pilgrim movie this weekend. That makes 5 things now I've seen Brandon Routh in and yet again, he is lifeless. I'm still baffled at how LEEE777 can badmouth Welling, but then champion his boy Brandon Routh to continue to be Superman. Seriously, the guy is a HORRIBLE actor...in everything I have seen him in. You can't blame Singer or the script for his bad Superman Returns showing when everything he has done has been lifeless. Sorry LEEE777, the only thing Superman related Routh will do in the future is maybe dress up like him on Halloween and do some comic book shows.

@ Ranger14 - So you'd be happy with a Superman who looks beefy, but can't act? Power to YOU dude. Not MY cup of tea. What I'm saying is look at Christian Bale in The Machinist, he looked anorexic, then his next film was Batman Begins and he'd beefed up a hell of a lot. Look at Chris Hemsworth in Star Trek, average build, then he'd beefed up a hell of a lot for Thor. Look at Robert De Niro in Raging Bull, his weight went all over the place in that film. There's more people with decent acting ability that can "bulk up" than those who can't.
