Two Actors Who Were Considered For 'Jor-El' In Man Of Steel Revealed!

Now that we know who is going to play Jor-El in Zack Snyder's new Superman film Man Of Steel, the names of two actors have been revealed that were also considered for that part. Check it out!

As DCMarvelFreshman previously reported, Russell Crowe is set to play Jor-El in Zack Snyder-directed new Superman film, Man Of Steel. It looks like that Christopher Nolan had a long search for the actor to play this part. The Hollywood Reporter offers a brief new info on who else was considered for this role:

"Details of how large the role (a scientist who forsees the destruction of his planet and squires his infant son into an escape rocket bound for Earth) is in Man of Steel are not being revealed. Sean Penn and Clive Owen were reportedly considered for the role.


While I think Russel Crowe is a great casting for Jor-El, it would be very interesting to see both Owen or Penn in that role.

Starring Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Antje Traue and Russel Crowe, Man Of Steel is set for theatrical release in December 2012.

Crowe will own ASS in this movie.

Sean Penn doesn't look a thing like Jor-El in fact...he doesn't look like ANY Superman characters I can think of. He's got this certain look that is just different...his face seems too pointy and too big of a nose. No offense.

But Crowe is a great choice. So far the casting for MOS is just DEAD ON.

What has Peters done besides Batman, Batman Returns, Superman Returns, and Wild Wild West because he certainly cannot be living in (as Kevin Smith calls it Wayne Manor) his mansion just off those movies, especially since all he produced before his Superman Lives script was the two Batman movies. Idk doesn't make sense. Peters should get his name on more projects like Bruckheimer

When do you know of candidates for Luthor?, I know there is a very popular after Superman Returns, but with the approach Snyder give Nolan and I am sure to be a dark character like the Joker by Heath Ledger, and other characters same as Robin and Batgirl in the case of Batman. ... in any case I hope they put Billy Zane as Lex Luthor

I can see Sean Penn as a weasely member of the Kryptonian council who covers up Jor-El's findings, but Supermans dad? No.

Clive Owen would have been decent but Crowe is the better choice. Personally, I don't particulary like Crowe in many movies but even I have to admit his has gravitas on screen and a commanding voice, perfect for Jor-El.

@BruceWayneNewton your Bruins are going home empty handed son, stop dreaming. That being said, I can see Owen as Cavill's father. Both Cavill and Owen look masculine, trustable and honorable. Owen would've been the best choice by far.

This seems to be panning out great, they are going with some great casting choices (not really seeing sean penn, no matter how good of an actor he is) clive would of been a cool jor-el. im kind of hopeing we dont see lex till the end of the movie. superman movies and shows have been saturated to death with lex, i mean he is the archnemesis. but pull the trick from begins and lead into the great battle between the two, don't just dive right in. billy zane would be great as lex
