With cast slowly coming together for Marvel's upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. television show, which Joss Whedon is developing, ABC president Paul Lee talked briefly to TV Line about it, and it sounds we can expect something good and interesting:

“It’s very Joss Whedon. We’re optimistic, because Joss is a genius and we love the idea and we love what we’ve seen. But it’s early days, and it’s a long way to go between now and a successful series. But we are very excited about it.”

The show was announced after The Avengers became a global box office hit this summer, making more than $1.5 billion, and becoming the third highest-grossing film ever. Marvel and Joss Whedon closed a deal soon afterwards, where we will see Whedon's influence in upcoming films, as well as this television series (he will direct the pilot episode). Whedon described the characters in the show as “the humans in a superhero world and how they deal with that and how it makes them vulnerable.” If everythhing goes as planned, we should be seeing the first episode sometime in 2013.

So just like the film industry, TV will become over saturated with live-action Superhero tv shows.

I wonder if that means it'll get canceled after 8 episodes?

I'm looking forward to this, the potential for this and the cameos that can pop up are huge. A great way to introduce many characters that otherwise may not get a good shot.

^Yes, a 3-5 superhero movies/year average out of about 300 is definitely over saturation. And TV is definitely filled with superheroes. What like 2 actual superhero live action tv shows right now? Out of thousands of shows on TV? Maybe a couple more in the next year or two.

Not to mention this isn't even about superheroes but about SHIELD.

@Scabsallover- How many movies and tv shows are love stories or coming of age stories? How many about overcoming physical, racial, or financial adversity? Everything has been done before to the point of over saturation. You're just too narrow minded to notice.

So, let me get this straight.....Wonder Woman might get a TV show and the character looks to be involved with Justice League, but that sucks because it's double dipping in TV and Film. NOW, SHIELD is double dipping and this is all of a sudden awesome? HYPOCRITES.....

This show will be junk and it's not needed.....same with the AMAZON show.

if they premiere the first season next year, by the time of Avengers 2 release there will be two seasons of Shield already

would be interesting to see if some actors from the tv show crossover into the movie universe.

This has always been an option on the table since Disney acquired Marvel since they own ABC too. Joss is amazing.

Amazon has just recently been conceived after the failure of the other Wonder Woman pilot for NBC.

This show will be amazing, it is needed so we can get a weekly marvel fix until we geed a movie installment.

And no it's not double dipping, it runs parallel to the movie universe so week get new story lines and perspectives.
HATER....
