Will Ms. Marvel and the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier be in The Avengers?

We all know that Captain America, Thor and Iron Man will be teaming up in 2012's The Avengers. But who else will be joining them? So far, characters like Nick Fury, Black Widow and War Machine all look to have some sort of role in the team while rumours have run rampant that heroes such as Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye and even Captain Marvel will also turn up in some way.

However, an article over at ShadowLocked indicates that there will be a surprise addition to the teams roster while the appearence of the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier may have also been accidentily confirmed!

Ms. Marvel is said to be included in the cast of the new 3D CG animated film which will soon be released at London's Madame Tussauds alongside a host of other Marvel characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man and Hulk. The film’s director, Joshua Wexler, was asked how closely he worked with Marvel Studios and proceeded to let slip the following: "We worked with Marvel and did a lot of work here in London and in LA. We had literally hundreds of people working on the development and the animation of the film solidly for the past six months."

All sounds pretty standard so far right? Well, read on: "Certain things like the S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier were made more modern than in the comics in order to fit in with designs they are working on for the Avengers movie." And as for whether or not Ms. Marvel will be in The Avengers? The director responded with a rather cryptic answer that seems to hint at the fact that Marvel may be thinking of including her, "Maybe...!"

So, what do you guys think? With Alice Eve and Malin Akerman said to be in the running for the role of an important Marvel character, it looks likely that we will indeed end up seeing Carol Danvers on the big screen in 2012!

I wouldn't mind a cameo for Ms. Marvel. But the Helicarrier is a necessity IMO, it's time to see its awesomeness.

Thanks guys! :) I was hoping that we'd get to see the helicarrier because it would make for such an awesome sight on the big screen but Ms. Marvel is one of my favourite comic book characters (although I've never really been a big fan of her solo series') and I was hoping that she'd be included in some even if it's only as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent!

Starsapphire: Who should play Ms. Marvel? Yvonne Strahovski of course! I even did a whole editorial about it...

Why Yvonne Strahovski Is Perfect For The Role Of Ms. Marvel!

And here's how I think they could introduce the character from my 10 Things I Want To See In The Avengers! editorial!

Ms.Marvel2

The Avengers is the perfect opportunity for Marvel Studios to bring Carol Danvers to the big screen. Despite her 616 background with the CIA and NASA, they could easily introduce her as a S.H.I.E.L.D agent instead (as they have in the Ultimate universe) and then expand her role in future movies by giving her powers in a similar way to the comic books, via the explosion of a Kree device, which would be perfect if Marvel are indeed building towards adapting the Kree/Skrull war.

I think we might see Carol Danvers but I highly doubt they would throw in Ms Marvel at this point. Stranger things have happened though.

Nice find Josh

@Starsapphire Agreed. I'm fine with just Cap, IronMan, Hulk, and Thor for the first one. Save the other heroes for another movie. lol. But I also doubt they'll bring in other character who haven't had their own movie yet. Maybe they'll mention them but not show them.

Uhhmm....he said "maybe". I don't see the fuss, especially since the movie is already getting pretty crowded.

More likely, the important female role would be for a smaller charcater like Sharon Carter or Maria Hill.

@Instigatorgirl

Yes, that's probably the best. We already know Cap, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Fury will be there. Now it's looking like Hawkeye might be there as well.

I know fans love the idea of seeing their heroes come to the big screen, but when you try to cram too many characters into a single film, you end up with crap like X-Men 3 or Spider-Man 3.

As Josh said, she should be a SHIELD agent in the Avengers. Then make her Ms Marvel in the sequels, she gets her powers from a Kree device in an Avengers sequel and then becomes a proper member of the Avengers complete with her costume in a third Avengers movie

It will be so awesome to see the Helicarrier in the Avengers too!

do we really need ms marvel we already got lot of superheroes in the mix right now she could be in the sequel.

Oh, hell! Just give me a Captain Marvel movie with Mar-Vell, Carol Danvers, Ronan the Accuser, The Supreme Intelligence, and Yon-Rogg. That would kick some serious ass!

@jazzman
Exactly.

As for Hank and Jan, they really aren't a must, at least not for this film. Few if anyone outside of comics know anything about Pym and the Wasp, so it wouldn't hurt the movie in the least.

TheSentry
TheSentry - 5/29/2010, 11:51 AM
i agree helicarrier is a must...but i prefer to see ms. marvel in her solo movie and have nick fury maybe another superhero like steve rogers do cameos...or they could make Carol Danvers 2nd in command of S.H.E.I.L.D. that would be cool but might make alot of die hard comic fans mad because the black widow has a higher rank in S.H.E.I.L.D. then Ms. Marvel but again since they are doin a combo of EARTH 616 & 1610 merged togaither, they will proberly say this takes place on a alternate earth so continuity isn't a big factor to make that close to the comics i would deffently like to see a cameo of hawkeye
TheSentry
TheSentry - 5/29/2010, 11:53 AM
i agree hank and jan isn't a must they can work it in the 2nd avenger movie......but it would be nice if we saw hawkeye

Bet you loved BORIGINS too! : D

I am a real comic fan. I'm just pointing out that they aren't "must haves" in the least, and some of the complaints that people are throwing at the Marvel movies (such as the "they can't use black Nick Fury!! That means they're merging two universes!!!") are entirely inconsequential to an actual movies.

iconstatic
iconstatic - 5/29/2010, 12:00 PM
As for Borigins? No, it was a shitty movie, but not because it changed from the comics.

It was a shitty movie because it had bad writing and bad directing. The fact that it didn't adhere to the comics had nothing to do with it. People weren't saying "this sucks because they made Deadpool into Baraka!!"

The were saying "this sucks because it sucks!"

@LEEE I agree... Hank and Jan a must. I don't care what anyone says about Pym, I like him and always have, but it's the principle of the matter.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 5/29/2010, 1:26 PM
I agree that Hank and Jan are a must. I think it is way too soon to introduce Ms. Marvel to the Avengers. Stick with the main team that they have been ramping up for. I think Black Panther is a more significant character that needs to be worked into the Avengers plot line before Ms. Marvel. I see him coming into play more in the second film. Ms. Marvel I could take or leave in a 2nd or 3rd Avengers.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 5/29/2010, 1:39 PM
I have to agree with the majority that Hank and Jan are a must in The Avengers. As founding Avengers, it would be insulting to not include them in preference of characters like Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel! (regardless of how much I also want to see them)

Introduce Hank and Jan as S.H.I.E.L.D scientists (as The Ulitmates did) and handle their more detailed origins in the Ant-Man movie. Hawkeye could also very easily be part of the team if the went the Ultimate route again and just made him a part of S.H.I.E.L.D as well while Carol Danvers could be just an agent in this one with an expanded role in future if they decide to go down the Kree/Skrull route.

Just Cap, Thor and Iron Man (with Fury and Black Widow) would be a huge let down IMO.
