Joss Whedon On The Challenges Of Directing The Avengers; Again Debunks Ant-Man Rumors!

Joss Whedon On The Challenges Of Directing The Avengers; Again Debunks Ant-Man Rumors!

Talking about how bringing these iconic characters together on the big screen differs to Serenity, the director once again makes it clear that Ant-Man, will NOT appear in the movie...

The director starts talking about The Avengers at roughly the 3 minute mark, but I've transcribed his comments on Ant-Man below. Seeing as this follows on from confirmation by Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish and Kevin Feige that the character won't feature in the movie, I think we can finally put the speculation to rest once and for all. Unless they're keeping it a very closely guarded secret of course... Regardless, his comments about the challenges of helming this movie are also pretty interesting, so be sure to check out the interview below.

There are rumbling about Ant-Man being in the movie. Is that true or not?

"You know, I'm really not allowed to say what happens in the movie, but I can say that it's not true. Ant-Man is NOT in the movie."

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: May 4th, 2012. (US)

He looks like Karl Pilkington's older, geekier brother.

Maybe Pym will still show - just no Ant-man...yet!

Anyway I am sure there will be other brief cameos instead. (Ahem...Black Panther...ahem)

That doesn't necessarily mean HANK PYM won't be in the movie.

I hate you Joss Whedon, you have lost respect points!
they could atleast have a cameo at the end or something! have like, Nick Fury be like ..

"Janet, Hank .. I want to recruit you into the Avengers!"

or have Janet and Hank atleast cameo as like, scientist .. that will EVENTUALLY be in the team.
Hawkeye64
Hawkeye64 - 8/2/2011, 5:36 AM
@Intruder nice.

i think there will be a teaser to someone else in the avengers that will be set up like hawkeye was in thor. introduce them without overplaying their role so audiences can get familiar with them for the sequel.

The fact he said he cant talk about whats in the movie...and then says that ant man is not in the movie...means antman is not in the movie but he is hiding something...

Im with some of you guys I defo think either Hank Pym/Giant Man will be in the movie to some degree...maybe as a cameo or as a shield scientist...

Why couldn't they just edit out the crap about "Buffy" and talk about the Avengers already ...................

They don't have to be Wasp/Ant/Giant Man to be in the movie.

ant man/giant man bring them, but seriously it will be more likely to just see hank pym as hank pym. or maybe you will see an ultron helmet which will symbol the work of hank and tony to bring him in on the next movie.
Spidey91

Hank and Janet will not show up in the Avengers, the script for Ant-Man is not done and probably won't be until the Avengers is done and off to manufacturing. They are not going to cast anyone to play them until it is, the most we will see is their names on a file or computer.

Frankly I dont rule out an after creds with Ant Man & Wasp! Marvel has been known to let out the secret of the end creds just before the movie's release. But anyways we knew that AM wont have a big role in The Avengers...Sad though considering he & Wasp are founding members! At least the animated TV show has got it right thank God!

Well if Ant-Man isnt in this expect him in one of the later projects like IM3 or Thor 2 depending on when Ant-Man comes out.

Intruder: You might be on to something. He did not say Henry Pym. I don't think we'll have full closure on this question until the movie comes out. I'm hoping he is, even if it's just as "Henry Pym: Scientific Adventurer".
JackBauer
JackBauer - 8/2/2011, 6:37 AM
Why do the reporters always ask if Ant-Man is in the movie? The answer is always NO. They need to ask if Hank Pym is in the movie, which I believe he will be.
JackBauer
JackBauer - 8/2/2011, 6:40 AM
Expect a cameo from Nathan Fillion as Henry Pym. You heard it here :)
TheDarkKnightWing
TheDarkKnightWing - 8/2/2011, 6:40 AM
At like the end credit scene would:
I have something to show you Tony. You are aware of the scientist Dr. Pym. Well he has found a way to make all our jobs a lot easier. You see he's created this robot.

Then bam its over with a whole bunch of fans jizzing their pants.
Armageddon26
Armageddon26 - 8/2/2011, 6:41 AM
Maybe it's not Ant Man but just plane ol' Hery Pym as a scientist. Bit didn't they say Hawkeye wasn't going to be in Thor as well?
Ceejay
Ceejay - 8/2/2011, 6:45 AM
Stupid character, can get away with him in the comics, in a live action film he'd just be ridiculous to realize visually. The very ground his team mates and opponents are fighting on would shake every step he took and he'd have to tippy-toe around them in battle not to mention the surrounding architecture. Leave him out!
jj72
jj72 - 8/2/2011, 6:45 AM
Ya, Ant Man is going to make a difference if people are going to watch the Avengers or not.

Let them concentrate on these characters before overloading the first movie with all new heroes. Most people are worried that the current roster won't get enough screen time to develop the group. Its not like Marvel doesn't have enough films in their lineup to introduce new people.

YEA REALLY THEY NEED TO STOP ASKING ABOUT ANT-MAN!!..

HANK PYM!! IS WHAT WE REALLY WANT TO KNOW..THEY ARE BEING TECHNICAL ABOUT THE QUESTIONS!
brewtownpsych
brewtownpsych - 8/2/2011, 7:00 AM
Ceejay & jj72 are correct ... having ant-man or goliath for that matter would take away from the movie as a whole logistically and from a character development standpoint. i think he's got enuff on his plate to give the core characters enough screen time and development as a unit
BooYah
BooYah - 8/2/2011, 7:10 AM
"Ant-Man is NOT in the movie ..." alone Wasp is in there with him.

Ceejay did you ever see watchmen?
niknik
niknik - 8/2/2011, 7:48 AM
They are original founding members and there is no excuse for not having them in the film at least in some small part.

Nothing would be more epic than having an Avenger on their ass about to get killed by a baddie when a fist the size of a house comes down on top of him.

JackMan

I don't think it's up to Whedon whether or not Hank and Janet or in it or not. I think they might have at least have had a cameo, IF there wasn't going to be an Ant-Man movie. Since there is an Ant-Man movie being made, I guess they're just going to introduce him in that.

Still not sure why Ant-Man gets a solo film though O_o
