Despite some filming reportedly being moved indoors today because of rain, shooting is now underway on the set of The Avengers in Cleveland, and we have not only the first footage from the set, but also a selection of Tweets describing the action, and a few more photos. The first two videos depict extras running away in fear as the NYPD arrive on scene, while the third features some street scenes being shot.

And thanks to the keen eyes of RIMBreaks, we have the following image of Chris Evans arriving on the set, and according to Celeb Buzz, filming his first scenes on the "New York" street. The photos below that come courtesy of numerous Cleveland residents on Twitter.







Chris Evans looked draper as he hit The Avengers set on Monday morning. Despite the rainy weather, the actor looked calm as he shot the very first scene in Cleveland, Ohio. Wearing his famous leather bomber jacket, Chris was solo on set before taking a few pointers from the director. Cleveland will be standing in as New York City as the production of the ambitious Marvel team-up action flick continues.




Squint your eyes, and you can just about see someone (Chris Evans?) with Cap's shield in the first photo.

The Avengers are being way more careful when it comes to releasing stuff compared to The Dark Knight Rises

I wonder if they are really facing the skrulls or any other alien race. I would think we would have seen something of an extra in a skrull costume by now. Most of the damage seems to be just the HULK.

Evans looks even more like a modern Cap and that outfit is take str8 from one of the more recent comics. I believe an issue of The Ultimates.

I've noticed quite a few comments on the subject of The Avengers not "releasing" as many pictures or video's of filming as Nolan has for TDKR. Use your heads people. Whenever these films shoot in big city's there are going to be bunches of snapped pics and videos. Up until this point The Avengers has been filming in the middle of nowhere. I expect we will see a plethora of photo's in the next week opr two from the set of this film.

the fact that they're using digital cameras instead of the traditional film camera is interesting .I guess captain americas digital camera use convinced marvel and paramount to go all digital. .

Hawksblueyes: You probably have a point, but look at all the long strings of video taken by random people on or around the TDKR sets. Maybe this is just the beginning and we have a lot more coming. On the other hand, Marvel productions have been really good at keeping stuff from leaking to the public.

I've been increasing the size and trying to clear up the photo of the dude holding Caps shield. While I don't know who it is yet, IT IS NOT CAP! The man is definitely in some sort of costume with a steel looking chest plate and some sort of crazy reverse looking mohawk going on. It may be another villain.

Could just be me, but the guy with the shield looks like Winter Soldier. Doesn't look like a reverse mo-hawk but more like the light reflecting off the hair. That's what I see.
