EXCLUSIVE: Dialogue Between Cap And Loki Revealed; Additional Casting And Scene Details!

An extra from the set of The Avengers has gotten in touch with some revealing details, including the confrontation between Captain America and Loki, as well as the reveal of which well known actor it is Loki attacks and the arrival of the Quinjet in "Germany"...

A couple of nights ago, a collection of brief videos and reports from the set of The Avengers in Cleveland (standing in for Stutgart, Germany) revealed Tom Hiddleston's Loki attacking what appeared to be an extra along with claims that he ordered the terrified locals to kneel before him. This was followed by the revelation that some sort of confrontation between Captain America and the villain would also take place. Well, earlier this evening, I was contacted by an extra who was on the set during filming who has some VERY interesting information to share with us. Here is his account. Needless to say, SPOILERS AHEAD!

I wanted to assure you that the kneeling scene Kleefeld mentioned is absolutely true; I was there, and I have the scrapes on my knees to prove it. (I thought I could handle it without a kneepad; I didn't realize I would be kneeling on and off for several hours.) Anyway, here's a tip: The old man in the beer garden who Loki attempts to fry? He is played by Philip Baker Hall, a character actor with a massive list of credits to his name (including Bruce Almighty, the Sum of All Fears, Magnolia, and Rush Hour...I recognized him myself from Seinfeld, and looked up his name when I got home).

He stands up to Loki and is about to be slaughtered for his bravery, when he is rescued by the timely intervention of a certain patriotic hero. Oh, and here's Cap's full line when he stares down Loki: "The last time I was in Germany and saw a man standing above everyone else, we ended up disagreeing." Loki: "Ah, the soldier. The man out of time." Cap: "YOU'RE the one who's out of time." This is only part of an exchange I heard a dozen times between Chris Evans and Tom Hiddleston. Trust me, this movie is going to be EPIC.

Here's another potentially juicy tidbit of information (and I can't recall if this has been revealed with concept art or anything): the Avengers arrive in Germany to take on Loki in the QUINJET. I don't think it's the whole team--we were only told about Captain America, Iron Man (who would be CGI since RDJ was not on the scene, and neither were any stunt doubles wearing armor) and Black Widow. We were told that Black Widow shoots at Loki, but I don't know if that means with handguns, or with weapons on the Quinjet. Scarlett was not there during the scenes I filmed. (The famous people on-set during my 2 nights were Joss Whedon, Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston, and Philip Baker Hall.)

So, what do you guys make of this? Phillip Baker Hall is a great actor, so it's fantastic to hear that he'll be filling out the cast of The Avengers, while the scene between Captain America and Loki really does sound pretty damned epic! And how about the Quinjet?! We saw a glimpse of it in the Black Widow concept art, and it certainly seems like a logical way for the team to travel to a location such as this. Stay tuned for more details as and when we have them, but be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place for the time being.

Dialogue simply too bad to be genuine...

Great stuff, I'm a big fan of Baker Hall, can't be just a cameo surely?

And sorry but that dialog is awful. In fact if you look up contrived, generic exchanges in the shitsplat dictionary you would see that line. BUT we are just reading it, might sound much better in context, when we see the scene.

agreed it's dialogue from a comic book movie what kind of exchange were you looking for. sounds like something right out of the comic

The dialogue isn't terrible, that's something Cap would say. That's the point of it. Cap's not a whitty smart ass like Hawkeye.
Akercocke

@seedslinger I agree. The dialogue sounds stupid to be honest. That's how a fan made script would sound like.
Jennn

lol that sounds like it was taken directly from the comic. love it. if Evans and Hiddleston weren't able to nail the delivery, Joss would change it.

just gotta have faith.

Dialogue sounds a little corny. I hope this kid was just paraphrasing!

@ThreeBigTacos probably the Cap part isn't THAT bad, but the Loki part is pretty lame. That's somethin the Merovingian from The Matrix would say, not Loki.

maybe the haters would be satisfied if loki and or cap
gruffed up their voices like bale does for batman, or
maybe they would prefer the line from commissioner
gordon about " the hero we need" crap.

dialogue wasn't great but it may sound better when we actually see the full scene.

"the avengers turn up in the quinjet" intresting.

if this movie was the avengers xxx they would be getting about in the "quimjet" :P
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/25/2011, 3:41 PM
I'm not panicking I'm just pointing out that that is a crap exchange. Captain America had em too.

"I have seen the future, and there are no flags"

"Not my future"

Woah, genius. The movie will still [frick]ing rock, I just hate the way that you cant say anything negative about it without being labelled that most silly of words, a "hater".
