Explosive Set Footage From The Avengers In NYC; "The Leviathan" Revealed?

Scenes of panicked extras and destruction at Grand Central Station in New York, Chris Evans heckled by a Batman fan, and what I believe to be the mysterious "Leviathan" in this latest batch of set footage...

Nothing too revealing in this final batch of set videos from The Avengers' New York shoot, but they do give us a closer look at panicked extras running in fear from on an unknown threat as explosions and chaos ensues around them. The third sees an incredibly obnoxious fan shouting after Chris Evans, "I like Batman!" Below that, we have a couple of photos courtesy of Bleeding Cool, which show the scale of the destroyed set and the effort that clearly went into creating these scenes of destruction on the streets of New York.

And now, here is what I believe to be the "Leviathan." As RorMachine pointed out in his poll yesterday, DCMarvelFreshman came up with the idea that the "Leviathan" is in fact the camera on the large crane you'll see in the video below. Looking at both it's location and the way in which it moves, this pretty much matches up exactly with the details on that filming schedule. While there's a slim chance that it could be referring to an alien ship or some sort of giant creature, I for one find that very hard to believe, although I guess we won't know for sure until The Avengers hit the big screen next year! Check it out and be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

A camera...I immediately find myself relieved it's not some sort of giant monster, lol.

teabag/demonhunter15: That was supposed to be Cavill (although it definitely didn't look like him) but it was a fan manip, superimposed on a different background with the cape added on. The other two photos you posted have already been put up on CBM too. :) You should have recieved an explanation as to why it was deleted though.

The camera could be giving a POV shot from the cockpit of a spaceship or of some big creature so doesn't really rule out anything...

@Josh @Demonhunter - Kudos boys. It's nice to see things kept civil when a problem or misunderstanding comes up. Tired of the useless fights on these threads over who gets main or who's worthy or who posted what first. News is news. And boobs are boobs. More of both please.

a bunch of facts go against the leviathan as a piece of equipment. The call sheet lists scene descriptions not camera movements. It mentions the camera being on the roof while the quinjet crashes. A scene description would not be the camera turns or camera head comes to a rest. We know the ultimate arm is a piece of equipment being used and at no time does the scene descriptions mention it.
Scene 197B pt 1: VFX Plate:The leviathan head comes to a rest on the street.

In movie speak that means this is a visual effects shot of the leviathan head coming to rest on the street.

Eh those Boob picks weren't that exciting, I excepted more from you Teabag.

Ha! Nicknaming a camera, such a Joss Whedon thing to do. I love it though! The Leviathan, sounds like this camera's got some work to do. I wonder if all Directors nickname certain cameras. Cause you know, everyone plays favourites!

the leviathan is not a camera

scene 197a VFX plate: Tracking shot of the leviathan headed down park

a tracking shot is when the camera follows something...in movie speak we have tracking shot of whatever the leviathan is as it moves down the street.

How could anyone not want a giant monster in the film? Why would it be so hard to believe?

@Destroyer14 agree, it would've been cool... still there has to be something saved for a sequel right? lol...

It doesn't matter to me not against a monster, or a giant camera... couldn't care less... lol as long as we get a great movie that's all I care about :)

I simply can not deal with wild fanboy banter anymore. Do you folks really have nothing better to do. While I admit to being guilty of actually taking time to read this site, and it's wildly false commentary, I must give up here and now. As someone who works in film and television production i can personally tell all of you that the "leviathan" mentioned on the call sheet is NOT the crane with the camera on it. That is called a technocrane. Equipment like that would never be mentioned in scene descriptions on a call sheet. Always mentioned in special notes section. If you impossible fanboys would look at that call sheet as closely as you analyze your comics, you would notice that they do indeed mention a 50' technocrane in the special notes section. Please just stop with the pictures and the videos and the wildly false speculation. Just wait for the god damn thing to come out. Instead of obsessing over what this, or any movie might be, try LIVING LIFE for once.

@dnno1 - OMG! Another Comic Book Story is destroying New York! That was so original of Green Lantern! Now everyone else who dare to make it is faded to be as shitty as it was!

Please make an extra effort to grow up.

And I can say the same about the nolanite in the set. LOL

@JWStubner - clearly the notion of a scene where people are running from something has been done before, and it wasn't all that impressive.

Yeah, the levathian isn't a camera. My bet is it's fin fang foom, but he's being used as a weapon by the aliens. he doesn't die in the movie, and is used by mandarin in iron man 3. mandarin might even get his rings from the aliens, or maybe the rings can be used to control fin fang foom
