BOX OFFICE: AVENGERS: AOU Begins Its Global Takeover With A $9.5 Million Int'l Opening Haul
At this point it'd probably only be news if a Marvel movie didn't make stacks of cash, but it will be interesting to see if the Avengers sequel manages to surpass the whopping $1.5 billion amassed by its predecessor. Well, it's certainly off to a great start anyway...
Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron raked in an impressive $9.5 million last night when it opened in 11 foreign markets, including France (where it scored the top opening of 2015 with $2.7M), Italy, the Philippines (best opening of all time with $1.6M) and Indonesia. Today it debuts in the likes of South Korea, the U.K., Brazil, Australia, Russia and Germany and is expected to make as much as $175 million before the weekend is over. The action-packed sequel won't open in North America until May 1, when it will look to surpass the $207.4 million domestic debut of Avengers in 2012 to mark the top three-day opening of all time.
