Tom Hardy Says He'd Love To Play THE PUNISHER
Last night Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) explained why he was forced to drop out of WB/DC's Suicide Squad; but it sounds like he still has a strong desire to play another comic book character -- specifically Frank Castle, aka The Punisher! Could the actor jump ship to Marvel?
Tom Hardy played Bane in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises and narrowly missed out on playing Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, but by the sounds of things he still has a CBM itch that needs scratching. While elaborating on the reasons he was forced to drop out of David Ayer's Suicide Squad, Hardy referred to Warner Bros. as his "home studio", but could we see him make a movie for Marvel at some point perhaps?
Collider has posted another excerpt from their chat with the actor, and he expressed strong interest in tooling up as Frank Castle.
Collider: I heard Warner Bros. has a few more superhero movies, maybe one or two that they’re developing [Laughs].
HARDY: I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.
You as Punisher could be very interesting.
HARDY: I’m not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9” [Laughs].
But I actually think that adds to the character.
HARDY: Frank Castle, I would love it. Is that him, isn’t it?
Yeah. It’s Frank Castle.
If certain Sorcerer Supreme related rumors are to be believed, Hardy has had discussions with Marvel in the past, so it's probably not outside the realms of possibility -- and 5'9 or not, he'd still be a great fit for the Punisher. Marvel does have the rights to the character back but many believe if they were to do something with him, it'd most likely be on their thriving TV platform where a certain other more adult-orientated superhero is currently making the bad guys bleed. Plus, Hardy is already signed up for the Splinter Cell movie so perhaps he'll be happy enough with that! Thoughts?
