Christopher Nolan Said To Be Involved With AKIRA Trilogy At WB - His 2017 Movie Perhaps?

Last week we found out that the Dark Knight director had a mystery Warner Bros. movie scheduled for 2017, and now a new rumor suggests he might be involved with a live-action Akira trilogy for the studio. Is there a chance he'll direct? Click on for more...

Literally all we know about Christopher Nolan's mystery movie with Warner Bros. is that it's set for a 21st of July, 2017 release - but a new rumor from Den Of Geek is sure to fuel speculation that it might just be the first installment of a trilogy based on iconic manga series, Akira.

The site has heard that WB is now planing a trilogy of Akira movies, and that Christopher Nolan has met with a previously attached filmmaker (who they say they can't name) "within the past three months to talk about the project." Nolan has written/co-written every movie he's directed bar 2002's Insomnia, so it would definitely be unusual for him to work from someone's else's script (in this case Marco J. Ramirez), but there's always the possibility he's giving said script the once-over too, of course. Or, he may just be on board as producer, or... he's not involved in any capacity at all!

So do take all of this with that every ready grain of salt, but keep in mind that whatever this mystery movie is it's going to be a BIG Summer release for Nolan and WB, and Akira would definitive fit that bill. What do you guys think? Anything to this?

If he's DRECTING: Nolan is still an amazing filmmaker, no matter what people say about his plot holes and putting too much emphasis on crazy science and emotional heavy handedness....i'd watch THE SHIT OUT OF THIS. Give him a great screenwriter and cinematographer and you have an INSTANT SCI-FI CLASSIC on your hands.

My choice for screenwriter: Alex Garland

HE SHOULD DIRECT AS WELL IF NOLAN IS ONLY PRODUCING

Cinematographer: Hoyte van Hoytema

I just hope they don't Americanize it to the extent that it's not Akria anymore.

Whoa...I've wanted this live-action WB adaptation to die ever since I first heard about it...

But this changes everything. Nolan has so much pull, he could mandate that the cast is Asian and that the film takes place in Neo-Tokyo, and WB would listen.

I feel like Nolan would fight for an ALL ASIAN CAST. He has the power. We know KEN WATANABE will be in it if it happens haha.

hollywood is so into white washing....Nolan should def go against the norm and cast all asian. Teach the people behind Ghost in the Shell how its done.

B...it's one of those "I don't know what the fùck I just watched, but that was awesome" movies. It made me read the translated Japanese comic and I enjoyed it.

The comic is like 6 books long, and the original animated film tried to adapt all that into two hours. Hopefully this new film is one in a trilogy that covers two books per a film.

@BreadPitt buuuuut, he used Hoyt Von Hoytema for Interstellar so they're familiar. It proves he densest always use Wally.

Not even the slightest bit unusual for him to work with someone else's script. Memento was based on a short story and then script treatment written by Jonathon Nolan, Dark Knight trilogy based on stories wrotten by Jonathan and Goyer (obviously further based on Batman), Interstellar was based on a script by Kip Thorne treated by Jonathon Nolan for Spielberg before Chris came in. It would be unusual if there WASN't already a base story for him to work from (Following and Inception being the only examples I know of, not sure about Prestige)
