CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Is The Most Important Lead-In For AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

The Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors say their film has a "very strong hand off to 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'." Kevin Feige calls "Winter Soldier" the biggest bridge of all the Phase 2 films.

Brothers and co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo discuss their upcoming film, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" with the Huffington Post and state that the events of their film are the most important in terms of heading into "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Said Joe Russo, "There's a very strong connection in the narrative between the events of the end of "Avengers" that drive this film -- and there's a very strong hand off to "Avengers 2" at the end of this movie. And Kevin Feige's whole thing is that this is the biggest bridge of all of Phase 2 movies; it really is. It does involve the most amount of Avengers of any of the films in Phase 2, and it has sort of a, you know, there's a very big shift in the universe at the end of this movie."

An interesting development/revelation. In terms of headcount, the film boasts the most number of Avengers team members in Captain America, Falcon and Black Widow. And who knows where the Winter Soldier's loyalties may lie by the time the film's closing credits roll.

For a while, many assumed "Thor: The Dark World" or "Guardians of the Galaxy" would be the most important film leading up to "The Avengers 2" as it was thought that Thanos would be the primary antagonist. But alas, it's Ultron and the events that unfold in "The Winter Soldier" will echo the loudest within the confines of the "Age of Ultron."

Well Whedon said A: AoU would be more grounded, and this'll be the most grounded solo film. Guess this makes sense.

Captain America: TWS will introduce us to Hank Pym and his Ultron robots that will basically act as a workforce for SHIELD, just like in Avengers: EMH. Something's going to happen during the Winter Soldier's attack on the Helicarrier that's going to corrupt one of the robots.

Definitely interesting to see how CA: TWS leads, or bridges, into A: AoU.

@the1egend1ives - That could be it. Interesting theory. At least that way we can already establish Pym and his Ultron creations in the MCU. Then with the Ant-Man film, it'll play out as an origin story of Pym and Wasp and have it end to where we last saw Pym, which is during the events of CA: TWS, or perhaps a bit before those events.

Nonetheless, Thanos will have a huge build-up. The last Cap movie had a huge hand-off to The Avengers too.

Sounds like Iron Man 2.

I wanted Captain America. Not [frick]ing Black Widow. Hawkeye would've even been cool.

How is this a surprise ? Whedon said looooooooonnnngggg ago Thanos is being saved for the finale and A2 would be more personal. When its all said and done Iron Man 3 will be a different film to many detractors. Some of us already knew Iron Man 3 was a great set up to phase 2. Cap 2 always felt like it was going to be Avengers 1.5

They should start thing in lesser (more antihero) characters into their movies. Like Doctor Strange 2 could feature Ghost Rider or Blade. Captain America 3 could feature the Punisher. Daredevil could be in the Agents of Shield TV show
