Alternate Origin For Michael Bay's TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (Storyboards)

Storyboard and concept artist Ricardo Delgado ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine") has posted some storyboards that he created for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. They reveal a slightly different origin story than what was in the film.

Ricardo Delgado ("The Matrix: Reloaded") is a professional concept and storyboard artist, who has worked numerous big-budget Hollywood films. He recently designed storyboards for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which he posted on his website. They reveal a slightly different origin story for Splinter and the Turtles than what appeared in the film. As you can see in the storyboards below, Splinter actually becomes interested in martial arts from watching television while in Sach's laboratory. In the theatrical cut, Splinter comes across a book in the sewers on the art of Ninjutsu. He studied it and then trained the Turtles. What did you think of the new origin story?
The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES directed by Jonathan Liebesman ("Wrath of the Titans"), and produced by Michael Bay ("The Rock"). The script was written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, based on characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The cast includes: Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Danny Woodburn as Splinter, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Will Arnett as Vernon and William Fichtner as Shredder. It lands in theaters August 8, 2014.

I think that concept sounds better then the one we got. It's still not as great as Splinter's master being a Martial Arts expert though. But that origin sadly wasn't going to work for this version of TMNT. I just wish Donatello's portrayal was better. My favorite turtle was turned into a wimp and loser.

This was by far the worst part of the movie. If all Splinter needed to do was read a gorram Ninjitsu book to become a ninjitsu master, then why don't the turtles read it and then there'll be 5 Ninja masters. It completely changes the whole teacher/student dynamic. I would've much preferred the one outlined above.
I'm hoping that they can retcon this a little bit in a sequel. Maybe Splinter tried meditating, as the book had instructed and had seen visions of his past life as Hamato Yoshi (as in the IDW comic). The turtles haven't quite tapped into that part of Ninjitsu and as such they can still learn from their Master Splinter who knows and teaches a lot more than a fvcking book can teach. It did seem that they were hinting at an ancient Hamato Yoshi, in the Legend of the Yokai promo.
There seems to be a whole bunch of different versions of this and that with this movie. Just watch the B-roll. There are versions in there of both Vernon and April being taken down to the turtles lair, instead of just April (as it should've been). There is even an ending whereby April is reporting the story of how the TMNT saved the world. Thank fvck that one never happened.
And we all know that at one point, Eric Sacks was gonna be The Shredder. And that he might've even been an Utrom (as William Fichtner seemed to hint at in interviews, last year).
I'd love to see all the deleted stuff on the a special edition DVD. There must be tons of it.
Apart from this one thing though (Splinter learning ninjitsu from a book), the one thing I can say about this movie is that it did not fvck up. So the sequels might still be good.

Also, doesn't this revised origin (either the one they used or the one above) make it a real huge coincidence that the people who created them and are also their adversaries are ninjas? I mean that is one big-assed stretch of serendipity. Why disconnect the ninja backgrounds of the good guy and bad guy in the same movie?

Duke you're spot on dude!

It was only released here yesterday, and watching it you could see that Sacks/Sachs was meant to be Shredder.. Some of the scenes with Oroku just seemed forced. Everything about Eric Sacks/Sachs was leading into the Americanisation of Shredder, this includes his Japanese back story and even his name mimicking Oroku Saki.

When everyone complained, they rushed the edits of the script and it affects the movie big time. They [frick]ed the movie with that and the origins of Splinter and the turtles. To be honest, I actually like these boards a lot more than what we got.

I really wanted to like this movie, but [frick] it. The CGI on Splinter looked unfinished, he looked garbage.. Dude was half the size of the turtles and could put a whooping on Shredder, yet the turtles were massive and struggled. These turtles don't need to know ninjutsu, they are that big and bulletproof that they should be able to bitch slap there way out of anything..

It pains me so much, I was really looking forward to this movie man..

I would have preferred Splinter starting off as Hamato Yoshi and then turning into a rat. I really didn't like the fact that he became a ninjitsu master just from reading a book.

You believe in humanoid turtles, rats, mech suits, etc, but you don't believe in learning a skill from a book?????

I love how people act like their childhood was raped by this movie. Its no less ridiculous than any other version of a TMNT story. The origin story has been different in every version...a pet rat learning martial arts by watching his owner...that's cool but getting his learning started from a book? HERESEY!

This was a fun and best live action version. At least we got a quick moving martial arts and a Shredder that actually fought.

And can we please slap all font snobs? How miserable do you have to be to have font issues? As a graphic designer it annoys me that other designers act like such elitists with this. Get over yourself.

BboiBlack@ Thinking that Splinter had an affinity and mental intuition for ninjutsu is the only thing that stops me from hating it.
But seriously, if I read a Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do book and had an affinity for it, then you read the book and didn't have so much of an affinity for it, then it's really gonna be more of a case of me helping you through the book. Like a study buddy. But in the film Splinter is flat-out a ninja master. And he teaches the turtles very well and for years, yet they are still haven't been taught everything. I mean, that's gotta be one huge fvcking volume, y'know?
Also, there are some things that you just can't learn from a book. If it wasn't for the fact that they were super-monsters, the Foot would've kicked their asses.
Also, I had a pet rat, once and I decided to try to teach it Kung Fu (I mean, what else are you gonna do with a pet rat) and I taught it to bow and punch. So that is slightly beleivable, but a book?
I mean I hate to be the first to point out the obvious, but...
Rats can't read.

Lol this movie was gutter trash. Watched this with my brother bootlegged when we were both stoned. Still hated it. Far too much time spent with slab of wood April O'Neil with every character mentioning how hot she is. The Turtles felt like backdrops in their own movie. Only good scenes are the ones with the turtles, which they aren't in the movie enough. A better title would've been "Megan Fox: The Movie, Co-starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

@marvel72
Lol Gollem says this was a good movie, then turns around and trashes GOTG. Get [frick]ed Gollem. Maybe he like TMNT so much because the movie basically regurgitated TASM's plot. Down to the supervillain launching a bioweapon on top of a skyscraper.

No one's nitpicking at "realism" troll, we're nitpicking the fact TMNT is an abysmal piece of film making. This movie had no heart whatsoever it was a bunch of TV spots strung together with a shitty script and shitty acting.
