It's been two and a half weeks since James Holmes opened fire at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. During that tragic incident twelve people lost their lives and another fifty-eight were wounded. Now, news is trickling in that last Saturday night there may have been another tragedy. This time in Westlake, Ohio 37-year-old Scott Smith of North Ridgeville was arrested and charged after it was discovered that he brought a bag of weapons to Regal Cinemas at Crocker Park.

A manager at the theater and an off-duty police officer became suspicious of Scott Smith. He arrived an hour early for a 10:00 p.m. screening of The Dark Knight Rises with a large bag, and sat in the back row in the middle. Smith was asked to open his bag and luckily Jeremiah Bullins, an off-duty Westlake police officer discovered the weapons in a hidden compartment.

He noticed and searched Smith's bag, finding three knives inside, as well as a loaded 9 mm Glock handgun, two additional loaded magazines, and a fourth knife under his clothes. Each magazine had 17 rounds.

Westlake Police Detective Lt. Ray Arcuri believes Smith's choice of seating, last row in the middle, was a "tactical position."
“If he chose to do something there, all his potential victims were in front of him and he would have an advantage over them."

Smith was the first person in the theater, and it was expected to have at least 80 people attending that showing. The suspect has a wife and a 1-year-old child. When his home was searched police found a wide assortment of weapons, 5 handguns, plenty of ammo, gas masks, and bulletproof vests. Even his cellphone had hundreds of images of guns.

Smith does not have a criminal record, but was in the military for a short stint. He is on medication, taking pain pills. Smith has claimed that he brought the weapons for self defense.

The Dark Knight Rises is now playing at your local theater. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

This movie is poisoning people's mind!!!! (And somebody is going to send me a death threat letter someday...I just know it..) But seriously, those who yell out for a batman figure to appear, be realistic. This isn't your fantasy game. We have policemen to deal with those freaks. They are the heros in real life. And if you are going to say something like "no, they have no costumes!" tell you what, they have better outfits---uniforms....

@AnditsOn1 Do you really believe that had this movie never existed these psychopaths would not have found another outlet for their insanity. These people are using the theme of this film as an outlet because it seems to blend but the fact is they would have found another time and place to attack and murder civilians. If you truly believe it is the movie that is poisoning people's minds then you are only giving these murderers an excue and you yourself are somewhat of either a lunatic or a moron

Yeah this is why guns are bad people. He even lied trying to say they were for self defense (which you would say too if you got caught, even if you weren't intending to do anybody harm). They don't have time to sort out the good gun carriers from the bad ones. That's why it's BAD in general. I'm glad security was tight as a drum and confronted the guy before something terrible happened. They also got to be careful approaching people like this, they might scare the crazy person and pulls out his gun and starts shooting at you or civilians.

Anyone who blames Batman for the shooting is a dipshit. You think that that douche-bag wouldn't of killed people if the movie never came out?
No, he would have chose another film or another place.

Ohio has a concealed carry law. If he was licensed he could have carried it in and no one would have known. I have seen it twice and the first time I will admit I felt vulnerable and wished I had my sidearm with me. Maybe he really was just concerned for his safety. The position he chose was also ideal for self-defense. Just saying, maybe he was telling the truth. The amount of ammo makes me suspicious though, and the knives.

It isn't the movies fault.. James Holmes was a psycho, and all these others psychos are copycatting as an excuse to get noticed.. I wouldn't be surprised if this guys had no intention of using these, but wanted to be caught with them, for the 15 minutes of fame.
Also, if this guy had a permit for the handgun then he really can't be charged with anything. I mean they can't charge him because they thought he was going to shoot up the place, fact is he didn't, and all they can charge him with is having a handgun without a permit.

did he admit that he was there to do a shooting? my first thought is that he's a paranoid person who brought weapons as protection in case a shooting did happen

Just read up on it, he calims he only carried the weapons for defense from a possible shooting, also he is only being charged with four counts of carrying various weapons for each of the knives, one count of carrying a concealed weapon with no permit for the glock, and one count of carrying a weapon while having a disability.

@ Blueberry...I don't know any of you guys, but that was a pretty immature comment to post about Marvel72. Even if it was in jest, it was pretty tasteless. Marvelite or Nolanite, DC or Marvel, whatever your choice, if there are more copycats like the first guy, we will all have to think twice about going to the movies, and that would suck!
