RUMOR: AVENGERS 3 Won't Feature....The Avengers?

What will Marvel do when most of the actors making up their current team of Avengers' contracted movie appearances run out? Badass Digest reckon they have some details. It's just a rumor for now of course, but a very interesting one indeed..

Recently a rumor popped up online that Marvel might be planning to split their third Avengers flick into 2 movies, and while that is (most likely) not the case, Badass Digest claim to have uncovered the studio's plans for their follow up to Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and if it's accurate we'll be looking at some radical changes for the team. Because most of the current roster (Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson etc) are nearing the end of their contracts, the site reckon Marvel plans to keep them out of the third Avengers movie altogether, and save (what could well be) their final appearances under their current contacts for ..."something else".

Marvel Comics

This something else (Civil War? Secret War? Infinity Gauntlet?) would unite the original team with the characters we would see replace them in Avengers 3...whoever they might be. Marvel certainly aren't short of options what with Guardians Of The Galaxy proving to be such a smash hit, and movie outings for the likes of Ant-Man and Doctor Strange on the horizon. Robert Downey Jr.'s renegotiated contract could make way for him to appear in Avengers 3 too, and possibly lead the team? That's speculation of course, and, once again, all of this should be taken with that ever-ready pinch of salt. If this really is Marvel's plan though, what do you think?

Marvel should have full Namor rights back around then, so they could use the 1970's Defenders (Doctor Strange, Hulk, Namor) as the basis for the next Avengers movies and that would be pretty cool.

Hemsworth and Downey are contracted for Avengers 3. Not sure about the others tho.

"but they are planning Avengers 3 as the springboard to... something else. And they're going to use their biggest characters in that something else, keeping them out of Avengers 3."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Badass Digest just recently said Avengers 3 was going to be split into two movies?

Why don't they just do Marvel:Electric Boogaloo instead of Avengers 3?

Davinci - Out of those 15 characters, Marvel only owns 6 (in movie rights of course) of them! They're going to need a bigger roster for that story.

@TheBuoyWonder

I've talked to my sources, and while I can't confirm it now, I can confirm Avengers 3 will actually be titled Marvel: Electric Boogaloo. My sources also tell me no Marvel previous Avenger actors will return in the film, but instead Tom Hiddleston is playing all of the lead characters.

If anybody doubts me I'll doxx ya!

Coming from Badass Digest's Deven Farcai? Meh. Hopefully we get the AoU trailer sooner rather than later, since we've had a distinct lack of MCU news lately.

Badass have been wrong before, and right before. Take this as you may but anything from them is still worth reporting as rumor..for now.

They literally said the exact opposite of that and debunked that rumor haha.

The article also says:

"Cap will be very busy with the fallout of Captain America 3, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Steve Rogers give up the shield at the end of that movie. Thor 3 is going to wrap up all the Asgardian drama, and could very well end with Thor forced to sit on his father's throne. Black Widow is easy to write out on another adventure. Hulk... well, Hulk's planet of residence could well be up in the air by 2018 or so."

I'd be very happy to see that come to pass, though I'm not sure we'll ever see a Planet/World War Hulk storyline in the MCU.

I could see them doing a storyline based on the original "Thunderbolts" title. Not sure if they have enough villains to pull it off currently... But that might depend on where Pietro, Wanda and the Vision end up following Avengers. Take some sympathetic villains like them, recruited under a leader who turns out to be the Red Skull in disguise (sadly necessary since Zemo hasn't been introduced... Although he could always show up in Cap 3), and throw in a few more ruthless types (The Abomination? Crossbones?). It could really work.

They Can't just split the original team, we need more of them in Avengers 3. I've always wanted to see Hulk's fight against Thanos which will be a epic one. By the way i would love to see Spider-Man, and Wolverine as a part of the third movie.

@GliderMan True. Marvel's never been hesitant to radically change things up from the comics, so I suppose it could work, but the only thing it'd have in common with the source material would be the name and some very general outlines.

"Had assumed that Thanos would be Avengers 3, but maybe that whole conflict will get it's own film?"

I'm starting to think that as well. If this is true, then the secondary tier of heroes gets their moment to shine in Avengers 3 (whether it's against Thanos and they only temporarily drive him off, or some other villain altogether), that leads to a bunch of new solo films for those characters, and then the"something else" that the source talks about could be a massive crossover event where the old guard of the Avengers returns, teams up with the new group, possibly include the Guardians and Inhumans and all that, and finally defeat Thanos?

If so, Marvel's playing a ridiculously long game plan here. Interesting stuff.
