UPDATE: First Impressions Of The TDKR Prologue

UPDATE: First Impressions Of The TDKR Prologue

Twitter is abuzz with vague descriptions of the 7 minute prologue for Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman flick which screened literally minutes ago ahead of MI4. Click for an idea of what to expect..

So far there have been no in depth descriptions of the footage (and don't expect any, apparently WB want this locked down hard) but a few tasty tidbits have slipped through. One thing seems to be evident, any supposed "leaked" description that we have seen previously is way off as the footage includes more characters than just Bane. But I won't say anymore, if you don't mind being slightly spoiled here is a collection of tweets from those that have seen the prologue. Oh, it's universally described as being awesome! Here is some feedback from the likes of Variety, /Film and First Showing

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

"TDKR IMAX prologue was amazing. I didn't think he could, but I think Nolan has done it, he's made a movie to top TDK. Holy shit so good!!

There is Catwoman, Bane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it looks like everything I could've wished for and more. Nolan, such a brilliant filmmaker.

Aiden Gillen and Josh Stewart figure into the prologue but the whole things kicks off with Gordon talking about Harvey Dent.

New Bat logo is very cool! Prologue features some exciting acrobats. A must-see in IMAX format. Definitely worth seeking out those theaters.

Nolan shows us a visual spectacle we've never seen before, in crystal clear amazing IMAX."

In case you missed that Irish actor Aiden Gillen (Littlefinger in Game Of Thrones, Mayor Carcetti in The Wire) is in the movie. This is the first time he has been mentioned as far as I know. Now bare in mind that critics do like to fawn...and this IS just a few minutes of footage. Remember the initial buzz for Green Lantern? Still, it's nice to hear such positive feedback. One criticism that I have heard is that Bane is difficult to understand through his mask. But that seems to be the only negative thing said about the footage thus far. One thing that is clear is that the footage is not what we are expecting..at all. Of course we won't know until we see for ourselves but for now what do you guys make of this? Certainly a nice surprise to hear those other characters make an appearance.

UPDATE: Here is a slightly more detailed description courtesy of SHH with extra intriguing details..

Even though the opening shot takes place immediately after The Dark Knight and features Commissioner Gordon speaking at Harvey Dent's funeral (and is shot in 35mm), the footage moves immediately to IMAX and the events that transpire during the hostage situation discussed in the viral documents. There, we're treated to a hostage transfer and the reveal of Bane aboard a private plane and an ensuing fight that takes every advantage of the IMAX frame. Think less The Dark Knight and more Inception or, even closer, an IMAX version of a James Bond film.

In his introduction, Nolan stressed the importance of returning filmgoing to the grandeur that it was for him as a child, warning that said scale, "is being chipped away at in all kinds of ways."

Though the response from the crowd was overwhelmingly positive, there was much discussion about Bane's voice. Muffled by his mask and featuring a British accent, it's difficult to fully understand exactly what he is saying (but likely intentionally).

At the conclusion of the footage, there's a rapid montage of shots, all in IMAX, that feature a lot to excite fans, the most intriguing of which is Bane carrying a shattered half of Batman's mask.

"I've barely started to edit the rest of the film," Nolan cautioned with a laugh, "so don't ask me what happens at the end or anything like that."

Heh, and I'm kind of laughing on the fake descriptions makers by now...all of them feature Bane, Bane, and Bane; Nolan feature nearly ALL of the cast.

Seriously. They knew they couldn't beat Nolan.

It's a slow burn with the excitment level but it's getting there...All year the fans have had to listen to stupid comments about the costumes, look at memes of Bane vs Batman which were funny maybe 1% of the time (generously), and hear bashing about Chris Nolan, a director whose only sin was making popular movies....Well prepare to eat your words, kids! When this movie is the talk of the summer, expect them to be rammed back down your throats ;)
