TDKR: New (low-Res) Image Of Tom Hardy As Bane; Nolan Reveals New Info On The Character

A new - if familiar looking - pic of Bane has popped up online. Plus, Christopher Nolan reveals a bit more about the character, including why he needs to wear the mask, and that he's the man who "physically breaks Batman"..

With new images and even the first tv spot popping up, it shouldn't be long before promotion for Christopher Nolan's Batman threequel hits full kilter. For now though, here's a new scanned image of Tom Hardy as grumpy ol Bane, doing that thumbs-hooked-in-armor thing he seems to enjoy so much. Also, as you can gather from the txt accompanying the image, Nolan reveals a few more tidbits about the character. He confirms that the mask her wears is not breathing apparatus, but a means for him to receive a constant supply of anesthetic to keep some terrible pain at bay. He also comments on not wanting to compete with the late Heath Ledger's Joker - ”We didn’t want to compete with Heath. We wanted more of a monster – Bane’s the man who physically breaks Batman. It’s an irresistible force versus an immovable object.”..

The image was scanned from Rolling Stone magazine, posted by the lads over at the TDKR FB fan page

Oooooooookaaaaaaay. So he doesn't use Venom (like some of us suspected) and is always in pain? Couldn't you just name him something else since he's not going to have anything to do with his original character?

Man I hope Bane isn't revealed to be a League of Shadow member from Batman Begins. Honestly I want him to have no part with the LOS.

RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 5/17/2012, 3:37 PM
Actually the ideal way for this to end, is for the League to realize Batman way of dealing with justice work (think back to Batman not wanting to kill that prisoner), remember Gotham has been prospering for 8 years after the Joker attacks. Perhaps, Miranda Tate is Talia, but she is there watch over Bruce and to aid Batman with the LOS when the time comes, not combat him.

"We didn’t want to compete with Heath... It’s an irresistible force versus an immovable object.”

Isn't the second part of that almost exactly what Heath's Joker said at the end of TDK? Odd way of describing the conflict considering he had just he wanted it to be different.

What is are the scars along his spine for? I think there will be venom in the movie but Nolan wants to keep it on the hush hush.

@Giantnerd

A liquid diet, would be the most sufficient way for him to absorb the nutrients he needs. Actually, for a man that is constantly on the move, that is the best way to acquire the needed sustenance. The nutrients enter your blood stream faster, because your stomach won't need as much time churning it into chyme.

Or a less practical way, would be feeding through an IV.

@Soforizo well, with the voice that he has he kind of needs an anesthetic.

On the topic of the pic, Bane looks very cool. Really dig that coat.

@RFBD Maybe the part over the mouth can be removed temporarily, I really hope they address it at least in some small way.

I will laugh if it's through an IV.

GiantNerd0720, lol. I;m sure it will be explained how he eats, or perhaps there are other drips in the mask feeding him sustenance as well as anesthetic.

Is anyone else stoked that for this filmed they used A Tale Of Two Cities as its model. I love that book, and it's themes fit brilliantly into Nolan's universe.

@GIantNerd, oh didn't read your comment didn't mean to repeat but really!! and I bet his breath is Kickin! lol

Nah but sadly I accepted that this is Nolan's Bane, not the real one.
LoudNoises
LoudNoises - 5/17/2012, 4:01 PM
The fact that they reveal that the removal of his mask cause him excuciating pain almost implies that we will see his mask removed at some point in the movie. He can probably take off when wants to eat, but it's just not very pleasant to do so. Or like @RFBD mentioned, it could just be a liquid diet. But I highly doubt the eating issue will be addressed in the movie. Seems far to trivial a thing to require a mundane sequence where we see Bane taking a quick break to have a cheesebuger, lol.

He looks better without the overcoat, menacing actually
RidiculousFanBoyDemands

@GiantNerd

I don't really care if they address it, we could all figure something out in our minds as to how he eats. Also, anesthetic doesn't just wear off. There's a come down time for every drug to lose its effectiveness. Essentially he could take the mask off, eat and have no problem as long as he doesn't take forever. Plus who's to say the pain is in his mouth? It could be located in his lungs, diaphragm, heart etc. He could chew just find, and the discomfort could be in peristalsis.

That's a great pic! And I think the scar on his neck is more than meets the eyes. And venom would be awesome but it'll be awesome anyways am I right?

Why can't Batman get the mask off of Bane?

Looking forward to TDKR, just wondered if there was a reason.
