RUMOR: Could We Eventually See A WALKING DEAD Movie?

Bloody Disgusting report on some "rumblings" of a possible feature film spin-off for AMC's hugely popular Zombie survival tv series. Nothing even close to being official yet, but click for the details we do have..

The Walking Dead is just the latest in a long line of tv shows rumored to have a movie version in the works. Of course some eventually do make the transition -- Sex And The City, The X-Files --, while some seem destined to be the stuff of fan frustrating "what ifs" -- Lost, The Sopranos. Still, given the enormous popularity of AMC's gruesome series, there is always a possibility that we will eventually see a feature film, and Bloody Disgusting have heard that it might just happen. The site report..

I have some friends working closely with “The Walking Dead” crew and AMC who confirm with me rumblings of a feature film. But before you get your panties in a bunch, we’re only in the third season of the popular zombie show – adapted from Robert Kirkman’s astounding comic book – and when I say rumblings, I strongly suggest the idea has been passed off in non-business conversations

In other words, nothing official...at all. But given that the show was actually originally shopped as a movie before going to network, there is nothing to say these "rumblings" won't become a reality and we get a movie to finish up the series. Of course, as pointed out above, The Walking Dead is only on its third season now, so we will most likely be talking quite a few years from now one way or the other. Would you guys like to see the show end that way? Or would you rather we got our last season, complete with a nail biting tv finale?

People don't realize how Avengers were so successful. Everyone knew these characters (through character development in their individual movies). The reason avengers was so good was they each had their "episodes" before so you didn't have to wait for origins or motivation because you knew these guys before the "huge big budget alien invasion". Give it two more seasons on the air then have a big budget feature film with the group getting to the alexandria safe zone and tell an all new story with the budget to really do the new setting and character interactions justice. Imagine seeing the new 2004 Dawn of the Dead "after" seeing the survivors in years of character development in tv episodes. It makes you sympathetic toward the characters and immerse you in the new larger than life story in a whole new way.

you would think that they would realize maybe juuuuust maybe the sole reason for the show being so successfull is bc a story like TWD cant be told in a 2 hour movie. the show gives it time to devlope each setting and character.

I agree frankster, a movie wouldn't be selling out.

If they had a particular event that they wanted to showcase and get a Hollywood budget for...why not? For fans of the show it would be just be a high-budget two hour episode and for non-fans it would just be a good zombie flick. It's not like they'd be handing this off to other people, they would make it.

I don't think they need to do it, but if they want to it's fine by me.

Question: Wouldn't this initial huge wave of zombies decompose to the point of near nothingness after a month or so? I've been keeping my eye on this dead cat I see on the side of the road as I drive into work. Been three weeks now and it's almost completely gone! It's really just matted down fur at this point. There has to be an answer to this. Anyone have one?

@EastcoastAvenger the virus itself extends the time it takes to deteriorate the body.but honestly zombies have a better chance of bursting open from all the flesh the consume without digesting before decomposing. you should read The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks its a good read.

@batz11, I like that idea, or maybe instead of doing like a final series (whenever they decide) they do a movie to end it all and be able to pull out all the great goriness.

I can't why they wouldn't. It's a popular show and it'll draw a lot of box office cash. I'd likely see it.

This would be awesome! The TV show is better than ANY zombie/ horror film I have seen in ages and I would love to see a good flick on the big screen.

The movie would have to end on a cliffhangar then. These characters work in the show for the same reason they work in the comics: it is ongoing.
For a movie to be made, the ending would have to either be the apacolypse ending or they went on a mission to search for someone and found them (which would just feel like a really long episode.) Its pointless, just keep it in the show cuz if it aint broke then dont fix it.

I'd love to see a Walking Dead movie, but if it happens I hope they bring Lennie James back. That dude makes everything that he is in better.

They talked about making the rise of the governor a movie already. I didn't care for the book so I'm on the fence about that movie.

@EastcoastAvenger
Spoiler.....
At the end of season 2, it is revealed that EVERYONE is a carrier of the virus, and that it reanimates the dead. Shane, who hadn't been bitten, is stabbed in the heart and dies... after about a minute, he gets up as a zombie.

So while the original walkers from, say, the first season may have decomposed to the point of being completely unidentifiable corpses, the survivors who don't blow their brains out are turned.
