love the inclusion of the likenesses of the X-Men trading cards that Jim Lee did in '91 inside the action figure variants.

Wow... Great... bring you back to the days, when X-Men were intriguing, had great characters, weren't overwritten... The Australia days were the best, but in general late 80s to mid 90s X-Men was superb. The current convoluted plots just irk me in all the wrong places.

I say the simpler the better...

Miss the entire climate of that era...

The X-Men are the reason I got into comics, been looking/reading them since the 70s(my dads).

Fantastic covers, this was the very first comic I brought way back in the 80s.

@thewolfx - LMAO!!! Yeah, Remy can be irritating!

@TheRealRemyLeBeau - If that's the Uncanny X-Men you grew up on, then that's a shame, because that particular roster grouping represents the near-exact moment that the X-Men comic(s) started to gradually decline in quality!

Also, you have a slight revisionist memory, as only the gold team members featured on that cover (Storm, Marvel Girl, and Colossus) were actually IN the Uncanny X-Men book at the time!

That left me feeling very agitated; Marvel hadn't learned their lesson from pulling the same stunt with the West Coast Avengers 6 years earlier!!

That era served to further irritate me due to the powers-that-be opting not to dissolve Excalibur and reincorporate Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler into the fold! To add to that, Havok and Polaris never received their call-up to the main roster! Ugh!

@STORMKAMI - I know, right? They really screwed up with Wolfsbane by creating Feral! You just touched on another significant point that led to the eventual collapse of the X-Men as a comic book series:the inexplicable cancelation of New Mutants!

Given that the team had already been bogged down by the addition of the X-Terminators, the logical move would have been to split the team into two books - the first being New Mutants, which should have continued with issue #101, and the second - X-Force!!

Instead, the NM team was crowded out of their own book in favor of newer characters! WTF?

Then, instead of replacing X-Factor with an all-new Freedom Force title, Marvel inexplicably continues the title with the same numbering, but replaces the main cast with a ragtag band of leftover mutants! How insulting!

It also would have been more prudent to cancel Excalibur and replace it with a Captain Britain solo title, as Excalibur really had no ties to the main X-Men books!

Looking back, it's hard to believe that Claremont didn't jump to Image with the rest of the founding creators that Marvel drove away!!!

Anyone else find it ironic that Professor X is only featured on one cover?

Also, the Adam Hughes cover omitted Banshee from that era, probably because it references the Dark Phoenix saga, in which case her costume should be red and the bird logo on her chest bigger.
