Hugh Jackman is back in his sixth outing as every one's favorite Canadian X-Man. Wolverine's first solo adventure on the big screen left much to be desired. If you think about it, all of Fox's X-Men projects are filled with flaws. The Wolverine is no exception, but it is much easier to overlook the flaws in this film than in any previous one. Is it the Wolverine that we all want? NO. It is however a good take on the character and an all around decent film.

After surviving Hiroshima, we fast forward to a mentally broken Logan living alone in the Canadian wilderness. He is scarred by the events of X-Men:The Last Stand. He is sought our by Yukio and brought to the orient to say good by to a dying man whom he saved many years prior.
In modern day Japan, Wolverine is out of his depth in an unknown world as he faces ninja, samurai, and yakuza all while feeling a little more mortal than he's used to.Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner demons all while finding love along the way.

Anyone familiar with Logan's story knows that one of the great loves of his life is Mariko Yashida. In the movie she is played very well by Tao Oakomoto. Mariko is tough yet vulnerable and the movie does a good job of showing Logan's human side when he's around her. They don't stray too far from the source material where she is concerned and the film is better for it.

Yuiko (Rila Fukoshima) might have been my favorite character in the film. She is hinted at being a mutant, but in the comic she isn't. They give her this kind of premonition power, but never come right out and say she is a mutant. She does have the same epic martial arts skill as her comic counterpart and again they keep the basic essence of the character intact.

The character that they truly screw up royally is the Silver Samurai. Screwed up, but not nearly as bad as you might think. The Samurai is NOT a robot. This was the big fear seeing the trailer. This films version of the Samurai works, but they totally ruin the character of Harada. While he is school to watch, he is little more than the token best ninja of the group. The charged swords are there, but not via mutant ability. I am not sure if the general population will mind this version of the samurai and I looked at it is a way to possibly start the character and fix him later. He is wrong, but not even close to how wrong Deadpool was in the first Wolverine.

Spoilers begin here so skip ahead if you want to remain in the dark. OK. I am lost and irritated over his loss of adamantium claws. I feel like Fox wanted to show his bone claws, which I can understand in a movie about Logan's vulnerability. I get it, but I don't like it. My biggest flaw with Fox controlling the mutant franchise is the way the mess with all of the characters. Silver Samurai does not have a sword that can cut Wolverine's claws. One of the most epic moments in Wolverine lore is when Magneto gets pissed at Logan and rips his adamantium through his pores. The movie only has him lose his claws, but if I were to call shenanigans during the film it would be here. Spoiler over.

The Jean Grey stuff was good and more than originally thought. The Viper was done well and for the most part they stick to what was loved about the comics Japanese arc. Hugh Jackman still is Wolverine. He might be a little tall, but he gets the character and still looks great as Logan. The movie has flaws, but not enough to ruin it. The story doesn't pace as fast as origins, but it is far more serious in tones. The romance isn't forced and the stunts and C.G.I. are on par. There is an EPIC after credit scene that sets up Days of Future Past! I wish personally that the wouldn't have even referenced the horrific third X-Men, but what's done is done. It's not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction. Jackman is great and Wolverine is still the best at what he does.

Great! I'm going to see this tomorrow. I think it might be better than Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel.

I worked on it as a Runner in the Art Dept (stole one of his jackets) so I was nervous to finally see it come together, I was sceptic that it relied on a lot of Japenese actors talking English instead of their natural tongue, but seeing it come together, great film, better than Man of Steel but had its shortcomings. Overall, a decent fun popcorn film, Hugh Jackman is awesome as always. He'll of a lot better than Origins that's for sure.

No one can make the PERFECT Wolverine movie...or the PERFECT Superman movie...or the PERFECT Avengers movie. It's all based on opinions anyway. The BEST way to get closest to the Wolverine everyone wants to see is for it to be an R-rated film. Hopefully the uncut version of the dvd will have all of the blood and gore this movie is missing.

I have not read a single review of this movie and I don't plan to until I see it for myself. You can take your Rotten Tomatoes and other reviews sites and shove them.

I just saw it. I haven't read the Claremont/Miller Japan arc (yet), but I liked the film A LOT. It's not without its flaws but they, when compared with the other superhero films that came out this year, area really minor, making this the best superhero film of 2013 (so far, at least). Is this the best X-Men film so far, however? No, X2 and First Class are still better, but that doesn't make "The Wolverine" a bad film. At all. Oh, and stay for the mid-credits scene.

I'm not going to lie, this was a pretty hardcore PG-13, and I have a relatively high tolerance for gore (TWD does that to a person). The opening sequence was quite jarring and had me pumped for the rest of the movie. But some gory scenes include: seeing Wolverine burnt to a crisp almost worse than Anakin and then gruelingly heal himself, Wolverine cutting himself open and shoving his hand into his own body to grab a robotic parasite from off his heart, and then we see his open body heal back up, and then SPOILER when his claws were sliced off and the Samurai drilled into his forearms, and then of course all of the fight scenes where he was stabbed a bunch of times.

Side thought: That end credits scene though! They have a lot of explaining to do is all I got to say...

There's an easter egg...spider-man logo was shown on a cap wore by a tokyo boy and the trask industries also for the credit scene.

Already down to mid 60s on RT....outside of us fanboys and girls....the critics are stomping it....my personal fav "Watching Halle Berry shoot hoops, flirt with Benjamin Bratt, and beat up Sharon Stone in "Catwoman" is starting to sound mighty preferable." 1 of 5 stars....ouch, worse then catwoman? I doubt it but that is just harsh..

@MarvelSquadie Fox stopped doing them..or maybe Stan decided he didnt want to appear due to the lack of Quality Control in their films. Remember he did first XMen and FF movies..

@Wingding Explaining...This is FOX..they just make massive plot holes..and then like some psycho-bitch we all have dated, pretends it didnt happen..

Its mostly because all in all they could give a shit about the character or story..its about money. Thats why they shoe horned in that scene. Everyone forgets Fox was doing nothing, and this movie was a "Stand alone" untill Marvel pulled in 1.5B on avengers and they changed their tune...

Movie was really good, but it kind of falls apart in the third act when it turns cartoony. The movie is still enjoyable and full of action. The Jean scenes were done well, if you ask me. It was great seeing Famke back playing Jean. Oh, the after credit scene had the audience clapping at my showing.

Stan Lee didn't create Wolverine, thus no cameo. He only appears in movies for books he created, plus Cap, since he brought him back in Avengers. Stan had already moved on to editor in chief when Wolverine was introduced. That's right, the X-men existed before Wolverine! Gasp!

Lets just hope that after the events of DOFP, it does somehow reboot the X-Men franchise timeline when it comes to the older films, especially Last Stand, and takes the films in a whole new direction...But if FOX is willing and not scared to take a chance and lead this franchise into something a bit fresh and new is the big question or will we continue to just get X-Men with the FOX friendly touch?

After Man of Steel, I wouldn't take RT too seriously, still it's a bummer when it's not a critical hit.

People want tent pole films to fail this summer, it's some kind of strange trend.

Just got back from seeing it and I agree that there are flaws but I didn't really mind them. This was, in my opinion, the best X-men related movie so far, even though it's competition wasn't all that great anyway. X2 was alright, but I wouldn't consider it to really be good, just my opinion. This, however, was highly enjoyable and it really worked well, even the ridiculous parts. Hopefully "Days" will be enjoyable as well.

It was really good. But you know Fox has handled this property poorly when my 10yo comes out of the movie with continuity questions.

I hope they can tie everything together to make some sense in X-Men DOFP.

Now, that I have had time to digest this movie, I must say that I enjoyed this movie more than I did IM3 and MOS. The performances in this movie were really good, 'cept for Viper in the third act. The twist with Silver Samurai caught me by surprise.

I can't see this movie being any good. The only positive things I'm hearing about it is the action. Nothing else sounds appealing. And bringing back the bone claws?? The one thing all comic book fans have severely hated in the Wolverine lore not only in the origins film but also in the comics, so much so that they scrapped that story from continuity... Way to go FOX, you've done it again! smh

I just want all of Marvel's properties to revert back to them so we can actually see decent movies made of these great characters! (Mainly X-Men and Spiderman.)

Just out of interest what do you guys think they're gonna do now that wolverine lost the admantium on his claws?
Bone claws or somehow gain admantium on them again? Me and my mates joked that he'd get his claws tig welded back on

Just got back from watching this and I thought it was great! Like most ppl have said viper was kinda a weakness at times but overall this is following first class in that it has a great story and great action. You actually feel sorry for Logan and go through the journey with him. The action is top notch and the swordplay is very realistic.

And holy shit with the bullet train scene!!! I saw it in 3D and it was fantastic!! Ill admit blurry a little bit at times but what do you expect when you're hurling down at track at 300 miles per hour?!?!

And the ending with the silver samurai totally took me by surprise. There was also a lot of really violent scenes and I'm surprised it actually is PG-13, through there could have been more blood but I guess I'll have to wait for the unrated version...

All in all I think The Wolverine is the best movie I've seen all year. Slightly better than ironman 3 only because Wolverine is my favorite CB character and its great to finally see him tearing shit up the way the comics depict, and much better than Man of Steel IMO.
