CONFIRMED: Jim Carrey Signs On For KICK ASS 2

A while back it had been reported that Jim Carrey had been offered a role in the upcoming sequel to Kick Ass. Now word has just broke that Carrey has accepted the part as Colonel Stars.

The list of actors joining Kick Ass 2 has continued to grow and grow since the movie was announced. There has been confirmation that all the major cast from the first film like Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and even Nicolas Cage are set to return, with new comers like Donald Faison and John Leguizamo just to name a few. A couple weeks ago rumors started floating that Jim Carrey was in talks to join the sequel as The Colonel. Now Deadline has confirmed their own suspicions by reporting that Carrey has accepted the role for the much anticipated follow up. Carrey is a big fan of the first film that was directed by Matthew Vaughn, even going as far as dressing up like the title character and singing a duet with Conan O’Brien, so it's no surprise that he would jump at the chance to be apart of the movie.

Kick Ass 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 28, 2013 and stars Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, Morris Chestnut, and Robert Emms.

Sounds good, but how and why is Nick Cage coming back? I mean sure, Big Daddy is pretty much the only film role I've ever actually liked him in, but he was killed off, and in a really brutal way too. I'm guessing it'll just be a flashback cameo.

I hope they play it straight. Last thing we want is the Colonels speaking using his butcheecks

@ACira: you;re right - flashback

@SymbioteSpidey1: there's nothing comedic about his part. Quite the opposite, it's pretty tragic. I hope they don't turn this into a straight up comedy. The first one had a dramatic punch when it needed to. This should do the same. A lot of horrible things happen in it and they shouldn't be played for laughs.

So Cage did a great Adam West inpersonation for Big Daddy and I can so see Carey doing an Eastwood or Ermey impersonation for this character. Bring it!!

Jim Carrey a has been? lol That's comedy in and of itself. Just because one chooses not to do as many films as they used to doesn't mean they are a "has been". When you are rich and successful, you can take time off and enjoy life. Robin Williams took a 3 year hiatus from doing films. Does that make him a "has been" as well? Al Pacino took a few years off recently. Daniel Day-Lewis took 3 years off prior to Lincoln. Damn "has beens". No one should ever hire Pacino, Williams, Day-Lewis or Carrey again. :-P

Kick-Ass 2 was a big let down after the first series. It's like Millar just keeps getting more and more disgusting and dirty for the sake of shock value. After a certain point, the shit just needs to stop.

Carrey is the last person I'd imagine playing Colonel Stars, but that's exactly why he probably chose the role. No doubt he'll do great as always.

I thought the first Kick Ass was good, not great.

But the cast for this makes me think the sequel will be much better.

Hell Yeah! I love Jim Carrey.

@Froggy Ha ha, that's classic Jim Carrey. That [frick]ing sucks he left the Dumb and Dumber sequel.
