I Want More Fantastic Four!

Ironman was great! Dark Knight was great! The Incredible Hulk was great! Wolverine will be great! And now with all these mullings of reboots, sequels, and what I've come to call, jumpstarts, where does Marvel's First Family fit in?
Has everyone forgotten about the Fantastic Four? Maybe it was just me, but I didn't think the movies were all that bad, only 3 real mistakes to be made any sort of ruckus about. This is the Superhero team that put Marvel Comics on the map! No, it wasn't Spidey or Cap, or the Avengers or X-Men. It was the FF. They aren't called Marvel's first family for nothing.

Allow me to dive into this a moment, starting with what those 3 mistakes were. Mistake #1: Including Dr. Doom in the origin as another crew member to absorb the cosmic radiation. Mistake #2: Never showing Galactus in the 2nd movie(gimme a break, how do you kill the main antagonist without ever showing him). Mistake #3: Knocking the Surfer from his board. Comic fans know this is an impossibility. Tsk, tsk on whoever thought that was a good idea. Good news though, these things aren't completely unforgivable. And most of the cast has expressed enthusiasm about doing a 3rd, except Chris Evans for some reason. Honestly the kid from "Not Another Teen Movie" is too good to keep playin the role of the Torch, *lol*, anyway... Jessica Alba and Micheal Chiklis have even presented what they feel to be good directions for there characters, including the introduction of Franklin Richards. So whats stopping this? Certainly 1 cast member acting unsure about a return wouldn't stop it. Ahhh, the studio. Fox wants another character like the Surfer for a 3rd installment because they feel the FF can't carry a movie alone, but all that is old news. It seems after all its the lower-than-expected earning at the box office that is stifling this. While a decent profit was made, the studio didn't get a Spiderman style turnover. It still deserves a trilogy I say.

The FF are truly badass. Sue Storm is one of the most powerful people in the Marvel Universe, Human Torch is a Demigod, and Thing can hold his own against the Hulk(plus i like his attitude). Reed is not my favorite, but he is a genius of the highest caliber. So what's the problem? Not enough action I say. Explore their powers more. Less talk, more Clobberin' Time!
And how about a new villain. Don't even mention Doom anymore. There are so many more Nemesis to reveal. How about Mole Man... that was a joke. Annihilus is a fearsome and malevolent enemy. As the conquerer of the Negative Zone he could certainly present a significant threat and his invasion forces would provide plenty of opportunity to exercise some wicked use of power. But the inter-dimensional thing might get a little convoluted and hard to swallow for the less diehard fan. Molecule Man would be awesome, but he is so wickedly powerful and also a solo villain. That makes it a fight of brains, not the brawn that we want. Puppet Master would be boreville and Kang would just get silly. That is why I cast my vote for Ronan the Accuser and the Kree.

The comic story that introduces him is simple and keeps the FF on our planet. The Kree are an alien race with technology far,far beyond ours. As a matter of fact, they didn't even notice us until a deep space probe of theirs that landed on earth was destroyed by the FF. It's then that the Kree realize this backwater system has sentient life and they send Ronan, as the Supreme Accuser of the Kree Empire, with a small contingent to judge our planet. In the ensuing battles the FF obviously wins, and the result of there victory consequentially puts Earth on the map to the Kree and the Skrulls, leading to our becoming involved the the Kree/Skrull War. That is for another story though. Ronan himself has significant power including super strength, speed, durability, endurance, and reflexes as well as possessing a vast knowledge of military tactics and soldiering. These things combined with the armor and weapon he carries, created with Kree Technology, make him quite formidable. Throw in some Kree escort squads for some added action, and you have a strong villain who gives the hero's alot to play with.
I don't think rebooting or just jumpstarting is necessary for this movie. Keep the original cast and give the actors that want it the most development. Sue Storm and Ben Grimm have always been my 2 favorite FF characters, give them some spotlight time. Torch had his in the 2nd one, and Reed is basically played as the main character. Th FF doesn't need another Surfer to amp them up, they just need to amp up the action is all. Thanks for reading. Make Mine Marvel!

Its' not that we've forgotten about them (although some actually have), it's just that they're the Fantastic Four. They've had great stories for a long time, but I personally, think they're worn out a little.

They need a break, then come back with an all-new series. I personally, didn't like the movies as a whole, but Silver Surfer was decent, Johnny Storm was alright, and I think Michael Chiklis did a great job portraying The Thing.

They need a fresh start. Evict them from Earth or something. From all the things Reed has done to put the Earth in danger, he should be evicted, and the team will follow. Go on some cool interdimensional escapades for a couple years, come back in times of crisis for Earth to save the day, and then tell the stories of your adventures for the years you were away.

I was going to link you to the article I wrote, but it seems you've already read it. I think that they are just a very tired super-group. The dynamics are somewhat boring, after all how long can the Thing and Johnny keep fighting and have it be entertaining to a large public audience. I think they may have married Sue and Reed too soon. No more sexual tension or believable fights between the two.

They also have a big sci-fi element which I don't think a lot of studios are looking for in a super hero movie. Everyone wants to go dark and copy Batman. Can a super hero movie with an alien invasion be dark? I suppose but it doesn't sound too compelling.

They suck. Kill them. If Sue and Johnny survive, put them in Avengers.

Kay dude, here goes.

I beleive your right, to an extent.

Yes the movies were decent, and yes they did have their mistakes, just not the same as you put.

Mistake#1.Casting
Jessica Alba as Sue and Julian as Doom. Lets face it, they did nothing for the characters, no one felt they were watching Sue Storm OR Doctor Victor Von Doom. Sue was purely eye candy(Not complaining) and Doom was a snotty jerk. DOOM (One of my favorite Marvel villains) is a nearly un paralelled master mind! A robotic genius! An evil Tony Stark with a vision to change the world, BY RULING IT!
In the movie all I saw was, "He he, won't they be pissed when I make all the money off thier discovery. OOPS, i have powers now, so I'll go nuts!"

Now I admit, both Alba and Julian did a better job in FF2, but just barly. While Sue was a tad more believable, Doom still was just a metal boned douche.

Mistake#2. The story,
It was done rather carelessly to be a successful movie. I mean it felt like they weren't even trying. I hate it when people make movies JUST for the sake of making them(Ghost Rider,FF,Electra,
Jumper) Even though they couldn't believably gotton their powers in the EXACT same way they did in the 60's, they could've handled it alot better. The only enjoyment I had for the 1st movie was really JOhnny and Ben, THEY REALLY LIVED UP THEIR CHARACTERS!
In the Second movie, everyone got their shot, and did pretty well, well enough for me to want to see a 3rd.
I know that the Galactus thing was pretty fouled up, but I was willing to see a 3rd film if it meant seeing him in his TRUE likeness.
Reed's portrayel was definatly better by the 2nd movie, he was acting more like Reed would.

Sweet, Soul. I agree with your views on the Doom casting. I think McMahon could have pulled it of if the part were written better, but I remember before the first one came out that the director and writers wanted to portray Doom as more of a withered lover(not that I agree with that) than the cunning genius he is in the comics. So, remembering that statement, I feel its less Julian's fault than some might think. And your absolutely right about Alba as eye candy. But one good thing about her is she is enthusiastic about the role. I was trying to pick out the big mistakes with the comic-to-movie transition. Thank you all for your comments!

possible villians for new movie

The Sub-Mariner-played by zachery quinto from heroes
The Sub-Mariner Alias: Namor
First Appearance: (Golden Age) Motion Picture Funnies Weekly, 1939; (Silver Age) Fantastic Four #4, May 1962

The Sub-Mariner has been both a hero and a villain in his time. In the '40s, he began as a kind of antihero who waged war on humanity, but who took up fighting the Nazis when he recognized their greater evil. He fought alongside Captain America and the original Human Torch in the World War II-era superteam, the Invaders.

In the '60s, the second Human Torch (Johnny Storm) uncovered the long lost Sub-Mariner quite by accident. After an argument with his teammates, Johnny tried to lose himself in New York's Bowery, where he stumbled on a bearded, long-haired vagrant. Using his flame power to give the man a shave, he revealed the face of Namor, the Sub-Mariner.

The revived Sub-Mariner became a regular enemy of the Fantastic Four, though he was never a pure villain. Motivated by a hatred of humanity (Namor discovered that much of his Atlantean civilization had been destroyed by underwater atomic tests), the Sub-Mariner occasionally allied himself with Dr. Doom and other villains. Namor became enamored of Susan Storm, often attempting to make her his bride. He has amazing physical strength, invulnerability and the power of flight. His power wanes if he remains out of contact with water for an extended duration.

The Mole Man- Peter Dinklage
The Mole Man Alias: Rupert
First Appearance: Fantastic Four #1, November 1961

The first enemy to face the newly-formed Fantastic Four, the Mole Man is a subterranean delver who once dwelled among humans. His appearance was so unpleasant that he couldn't keep a job, win a date or escape ridicule, so he fled to the farthest corners of the world. Discovering a cave that led to the earth's center, he fell down a deep hole at the end of it. In the darkness, he lost clarity of vision but gained a mastery over the denizens of the underworld.

The Mole Man isn't a very formidable fighter, but he commands a wide array of creatures. In his first appearance, he controls an enormous monster who engulfs a series of "atomic plants" all over the world. In later episodes, his servants are the underdwelling Moloids.

Now FF is prolly the my favorite superhero team too.But instead of involving the krees and skrulls in the next one how bout NAMOR THE SUB-MARINER he is a great villian that could make the movie. Istead of killing the villian like most comicbook movies do Namor can become friendly like he sometimes does in the comics lol.

The Whole Galactus thing ticked me off in the second one i was so excited when i knew the surfer was in it cause i thought the movie would end with galactus arriving at earth and then roll credits that would have left them for a story for the third one.

Unfortantly the whole Doom as villian might happen i mean he didnt die at the end of the second one he just fell to the ground so they are prolly going to put him in the would be third.

Overall the third comicbook movie in the seires is always the worst Spider-man3, Blade Trinity, X3. So part of me Wishes they dont do another so it would be completly ruined thou another part says go ahead.I wanna see a thrid installment.
See ya, The ShakeBake

I happen to love the FF. The book goes through good periods and bad. John Byrne was great. I'm not sure about the current writers yet.

I find the movies are totally dependent on the story and the director. I believe Marvel saw what happens when you put a great director (Jon Favrau or Bryan Singer) on a movie vs the director of X-3.

FF needs a great director then a great script. How bout the Hulk as a 3rd movie opponent?
memphisdave222 - 1/23/2009, 4:28 PM
nobody's harder then the FF...well maybe the Thing with a hard on, but thats still FF baby. this franchise can't fail I mean if they f**k this one up it will be a damn shame, the FF movies should be as big as the Spiderman & Ironman movies.

Annihilus would be bad ass,but Myth is right,it would be hard to pull off.

my vote is for the Wizard & Trapster aka Paste-Pot Pete, a storyline with those two would be interesting.
CRUSH - 1/25/2009, 12:17 AM
lol CRUSH you didn't just say Trapster and Wizard. I'd rather have Mole Man. thanks for comments guys.
TheMyth - 1/25/2009, 4:31 AM
I think we all can agree any marvel movie that would start off with our hero/heroes beating the crap out of any of their lesser known enemys for the first 5 minutes would be awesome.
(FF 3)-so have the first fam fight two guys like the Wizard & Trapster, have the fight spill down to the subways underground,FF beat them up,then as they leave have the Thing say that he saw something(one of mole man's creatures)moving around down there,Human Torch makes a joke about it and all is forgoten.
Thing, dressed in his longcoat & hat go's by himself underground sees the dirty sewer palace of the Moleman and his minion's
back to the baxter building the Thing warns the others.Dr.Henry Pym should be introduced with a small speaking role, then FF go underground & defeat the minions,Moleman escapes and unleashes Giganto on the city of new york, the set up for the famous FF first issue cover fight,I would love to watch FF fight something huge together.
(FF 4)-I want to see a marvel movie that takes us under-water,the FF meet Sub-Mariner is cool.Have the Todd Arliss(Tiger Shark)transformation storyline take FF underwater, while there they find Atlantis & Sub-Mariner,with a end fight with Attuma & Tiger Shark.Although I know they could get underwater that far with something Reed built I don't know how they could fight? maybe Sue could do something plus Torch would have a problem.
(FF 5)-FF & Wyatt Wingfoot are invited as guests to Wakanda Africa by Black Panther, he fights them all, later becoming friends.enemys would include Erik Killmonger & Ulysses Klaw (Klaw) the guy that killed T'Challa's father.Setting up the Black Panther movie.
(FF 6)the Kree,Ronan, the Skrulls,K'lrt(Super Skrull) and the Inhumans.
and if you wanted to get crazy with it, one time Alantis went to war with Wakanda so that could be a bridge between 4 & 5.

the Thing should of been a cgi like the hulk.
Sue Storm should of been played by Kate Bosworth.
Human Torch & Reed Richards were both casted fine.
Dr.DOOM should of been played by Dolph Lundgren, I'm serious look at him now at days he's perfect for the role,he's big,has an accent,a scary face & he needs work, with the right writer's he would be good, plus keep his lines to a minimum have him all mysterious just short & sweet or sour in his case...but when DOOM gets mad I'm sure Dolph would have no problem getting real loud & sounding mean like old metal face!
