I think Aang's nose is supposed to be 3 3/4 of a centimeter to the left!!! WTF!!! lol

In all seriousness (and sanity), I think this movie looks like it will probably be one of the better actioners of the summer! I'm looking forward to what this young Noah Ringer has to show us! My only concern is that some of the lighthearted, fun aspects of the characters may be lost amidst a serious toned story plot. Overall... Looks good.

shouldnt a few of those characters be a little darker in color? or is it the lighting?..i too am kinda disappointed in their ethnicities but what can you do=/

the only real changes i would make is to make the scar on zuko's face more burnt, and to have his head shaved. i liked how each season his hair grew in, and that would be cool to see in the movie. overall, looks cool. cant wait to see appa

Trioch , Toph does not come into the story until the second season, therefore will not come into the films until the second one. The Theory is that the earthbender in the picture is actually Bumi. He is the King of Omashu, one of the earth kingdom's Providence cities. Bumi, however, was depicted as an incredibly old man in the show. Once a friend of Aang's When they were children, he, naturally ages quite a bit in the 100 years that Aang is frozen in the ice. Another Idea is that it could be the Earth King Himself, who is not much older than 40. But, M. Night has supposedly sworn not to mix the seasons and they Don't Meet the Earth King until the second season and news of Aang's return and reputation has circulated a bit. My theory is that the marketing guys needed an earth dude for that poster without revealing other characters so they just pulled some random image of an extra like an Earth soldier or general or something. who knows? maybe hes a really old man? you can't really see his face but Bumi usually wears ridiculous outfits.

also, i think the issue with darkness of things like skin and scars is because they are outside in the friggen south pole. everything is pure white and arctic regions are light all of the time. the costumes are perfect. the blue Eskimo clothes were good for the show but they are like native Americans in living style, real seal fur isn't blue.

I still think Sokka should have been played by Dev Patel, although at least it's not being played by Shyamalan's first choice. Too bad the Sokka and Katara aren't inuit-eskimo and I liked the fact that the fire nation resembled chinese ethnicity and culture, will just have to wait and see.

Besides that, and I know I'm kind of defending a Shyamalan movie (enough with the stupid twists already), it does look promising (but I'm extremely wary since it could be another Shyamaln piece of crap), and I know it can't be as bad as Dragonball Evolution, I mean at least they cast a 12 year old that can fight, not a 28 year old wimp that all he does for 85 minutes is whine while trying to be funny and since he can't fight, does the thing he could do best.... lame aerobics for 5 minutes in a frikkin martial arts movie.

This looks great to me. I'm a fan of M. Night. Love his stuff no matter what people say. But as far as the argument about the race of the actors, PEOPLE SHUT UP!!! The show took place in an entire world. It was not set in Japan or China. It was created in America by Americans. It was done to reflect the style of anime and as an animator myself I was blown away by the series. The characters could be any race, they did not actually look Asian, fans just want to associate the show with anime and claim the races of the characters so as to place it into a category but it was not an anime.

Its going to be an awesome series of films and I know it will do justice to the show.

So I guess that dark skinned people that live in extremely cold places and that build everything from snow and ice aren't supposed to resemble esquimos? Funny, so they are supposed to resemble caucasians now?

All I'm saying is that the race thing doesn't kill it for me, in fact, if I do think this movie sucks it will probably be all Shyamalan's fault due to his scriptwriting skills and the movie experience he tries to push down my throat on every single one of his scripts.

I just think that having the fire nation seem chinese gave prince Zuko's and princess Azula's motivations a much greater depth (I could understand their thirst for power and need for perfection much better, and their obsession with martial arts) and I couldn't help but see some similarities between the fire nation's drive and Mao's vision of China. Unfortunately, the movie seems to have lost that, it could be so the movie is PC, however in my opinion, they shouldn't have changed that.

@NoobMike and others... you are completely right and i could not have said it any better... bravo to you good sirs and mistresses of CBM! There really is something to be said about Sokka's awkwardness and tall/lanky body which Dave Patel is perfectly suited for. Katara is a huge disappointment for obvious reasons. Zuko is fail fail FAIL! I think that M Knight cast people of his own race and a bunch of misplaced Caucasians in an almost "racist" way. I mean that it stinks of "Nepotism" if you will.... the light skinned Inuits is a loss for all of us. For me this story/Anime was a gift to all people of the world especially the Chinese and all Asian peoples. It is sad to see such a departure. I still hope that this movie attains greatness :)

But for me much of what is Great about Avatar the Last AirBenders greatness has already been lost. ;(

Agreed, I was unaware that it was being made as a trilogy and both theories you present are most likely if that is the case. I would say from the looks of him, it is more probably the Earth King because Bumi would be much more elderly and decrepit.

Dude you shut up! The race thing is huge. First off americans created it and asians animated it. Plus the fact that the entire cast is not asian is a perversion to the show. It was created with the asian culture in mind. I'm glad your a animator by I work in film and I'm not impressed with ANYTHING I have seen so far. It's gonna be a $hity series of films and do a HUGE INJUSTICE to the show.

personally, im a huge fan of the show, and i have faith in m.night. i also have a great feeling about dev patel's performance as zuko. the only thing im feeling off about so far is katara. im still waiting to see aang's performance because even though he looks like him, the kid is actually really scaring me with that mugshot look. i really hope they dont take out the sense of humor in the movie though.

all of these phtos are screen tests. you can tell because of the facial expressions and the re-used background. zuko's is a still, the quda promo poster is an unfinished design that is circulating the internet. they are asking people to take it down all over the place. the photos are real stills but the title labeling is incomplete.

As far as I kno, they haven't showed any pics of the Earth Bender Toph. I can't wait to see her, she's my second fav character behind Zuko!

Zuko is the Man! I hope Patel can pull it off, cuz that character has ALOT of depth.

A small portion of, wait, 4 nations? How much might that be, 1?

Anyway, the Water Tribe is clearly based on Eskimo culture and appearance, so, yeah, not much oriental. Fire nation, Earth Kingdom and Air Nomads though share different asian influences.

If it's one thing I've learned, it's to never trust IMDB before the movie comes out. Anyone with an account on that site can go and edit anything they want. So more than likely, the roles you saw casted were either rumors, or just completely made up.

Besides, it wouldn't be THAT hard to make someone bulk up to be Irani's size.

He may look kind of fat, but as we all know, when he's in prison, we see he is STUPENDOUS shape. Actors do this all the time for movies, so even if that skinny dude is casted, I'm sure it's not going to be hard for him to bulk up.

Hey, I saw this article and I'm new here, but I agree with you guys 100%. The casting is just AWFUL. Aang is played by some kid from Texas who most likely will show an accent in the film, Sokka is played by a guy who was on Disney Channel, Katara is explained in ways the viewing public can't comprehend, and then there's ZUKO who turned into a f** mess! He's played by Dev Patel, who played Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire, a character who's Indian. BUT WAIT!!! IT GETS EVEN WORSE!!! Dev Patel in reality is ENGLISH!!!! I've seen plenty of movies by Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies, but THIS ONE will suck beyond belief!!!! AND, They left out Toph!!!!! They could at least put HER in!!! If you check out a teaser poster for the film, they even mess up the damn national emblems!!! Like I said before...T-R-A-I-N W-R-E-C-K!!!! They should get someone who actually knows what he's doing to direct, like Steven Spielberg, not these lameass excuses for "visionaries"! I say rebel, REBEL!!! This atrocious pile of rhino crap should be in a pile of ashes, in Hollywood, California with a plaque reading "Here sits the remains of the WORST DAMN FILM IN HISTORY!!!". Case and point, THIS...DAMN...MOVIE...WILL...SUCK!!!!!!

That they didn't even make a token attempt at trying to do a decent casting job tells me that beyond the special effects, this movie is going to be a horrifyingly bad adaptation.

The series has an overall story that would have made for some really decent movies too, so it really is a pity.

I am a huge fan of Avatar and for what it is I think it MIGHT be a good movie, but as for it being based off of a TV series I have to say that it looks like it is going to be a flop to me. If you go and watch it without seeing the cartoon first I think you might like it a lot more.
