Mary Elizabeth Winstead made a big impact as Huntress in Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn), and while her future in the DCEU remains uncertain, the Fargo actress has another action-heavy role lined up in Netflix thriller, Kate.
Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter's War), Kate follows a hired killer on assignment in Tokyo who winds up being poisoned. With the clock ticking, she decides to use her last few hours to track down the person responsible and make them her final hit.
"Kate is a ruthless assassin who is on a job in Tokyo, and she gets poisoned," Winstead tells EW. "She finds out she has 24 hours to live before the poison kills her, so she sets out on a mission to find out who poisoned her and kill them before she dies. Along the way, she forges this bond with this teenage girl named Ani (Miku Martineau), and they end up taking on this mission together. It's a heartfelt, brutal, assassin story!"
Woody Harrelson (Venom: Let There Be Carnage) is also on board as Kate's handler, and the rest of the supporting cast includes Tadanobu Asano, Michiel Huisman, and Jun Kunimura.
This doesn't sound like it's striving for originality, but a Japan-set actioner starring MEW with a big f*ck-off gun? Sign us up.
