Thanks to the John Wick franchise, Keanu Reeves has made quite the Hollywood comeback in recent years, and after reprising his role as Neo in The Matrix Resurrections, he'll also return as DC Comics' Hellblazer in Constantine 2. Another big project on the horizon for the actor is Netflix's adaptation of his, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney's comic book, BRZRKR.
Reeves is understandably set to play the character who shares his likeness on the page, but could he also decide to step behind the camera to direct the Netflix movie? The Batman scribe Mattson Tomlin recently finished penning the screenplay, and the project does need a director!
Talking to Collider (via ActioNewz.com), Reeves said, "I got [the script] yesterday or two days ago. I haven't read it yet." He'd go on to say that it's still "early days" when it comes to finding a director, but pointed out that there's a "33%" of him choosing to take charge of the movie.
He does have some experience on that front, remember, as he previously helmed 2013's Man of Tai Chi.
"I know how it's a lot of work, but the film that I directed, Man of Tai Chi, was born, I became the director because I was part of the writing process, and I didn't want to hand it over. I was like, oh, okay. I have to direct this. I'm not quite there yet on ‘BRZRKR’. I have to read the script, but I'm also interested in having a collaborator and what they could bring to it."
We're not sure how serious Reeves is about helming BRZRKR, and we'd bet on the actor eventually choosing a director he's happy to work with. Still, it would be a lot of fun for him to be that hands-on with what is clearly a passion project, and we're sure Netflix would be happy seeing the actor both in front and behind the camera.
"The man known only as B. is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence...even at the sacrifice of his sanity," reads the official description of the comic book series. "But after wandering the world for centuries, the Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else."
"In exchange, B. will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it."
