The murderous maniac with a penchant for power tools and fashioning masks from his victims' faces is set to return for a direct sequel to '70s horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Netflix has now shared the first teaser trailer.

The footage doesn't reveal much, but we do get a glimpse of Leatherface taking up his terrifying weapon of choice after years of attempting to lead a normal life (we're still a little confused by that one) when a fresh batch of potential victims (Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Nell Hudson, and Jacob Latimore) begin to make trouble in his town.

According to producer Fede Álvarez, the movie will serve as a follow-up to Tobe Hooper's original, but unlike the recent Halloween revival, it won't necessarily ignore the events of the other TCM entries that followed.

"When I say 'direct sequel' I wouldn't say it skips everything," Álvarez explains. "When movies do that, sometimes it feels a bit disrespectful to all the other films. Some people love Texas Chainsaw 2. I love a lot of things about that movie — it's so wacky and of its time. But the rest is such a mess canon-wise. I think it's up to you to decide when and how the events of the other movies happen."

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is set to premiere on Netflix on February 18. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
