Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019 to rave reviews from fans and critics alike, and it's not unfair to say Marvel Studios has struggled to recapture the magic they found with the Infinity Saga's finale.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars will also inevitably be compared to what the Russo Brothers delivered, so the pressure is on Marvel Studios to deliver! In the meantime, artist Adam Ross has shared some awesome new concept art from the movie showcasing a very different type of Leviathan.

"This was done as a concept for a massive monster to be tangled with in the final battle of Endgame," he explains. "They are directly based on the Chitauri flying Levianthans from the first Avengers film. Sculpted in ZBrush, rendered in Keyshot, [and composed] in Photoshop."

It would have been epic to see this kaiju-like beast unleashed in the final battle, though there was arguably more than enough already happening in that sequence.

Talking shortly after Avengers: Endgame was released, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely talked about giving the blipped heroes a chance to shine during the sequence which saw them try to keep the Infinity Gauntlet away from Thanos.

"You’ll notice that most of the people doing the heavy lifting in that sequence are not the ones you’ve spent two hours with. It’s the ones who just got there, because it’s the only time they’re going to get any screen time. It was a great opportunity to advance the plot, but also give everybody a beat."

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the movie features an epic ensemble which includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

For a time, Avengers: Endgame was the highest-grossing movie ever released with $2.799 billion at the worldwide box office. However, Avatar's re-release during the pandemic saw that return to the top spot.

Avengers: Endgame is now streaming on Disney+.
