Although the reveal came in for some backlash, Avengers: Endgame did indeed introduce a minor gay character (played by Joe Russo) during the group chat scene with Steve Rogers. Many felt this was a bit of a cop out, but the directors have now promised that a more significant player in The MCU has secretly been gay all along, and this will be addressed in an upcoming movie.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly's EW Morning Live, Russo discussed his cameo in Endgame. When asked 'who else is gay?', he responded: “Uhhh... We’re gonna find out! “There is a gay character coming up in one of their films, and I think Kevin [Feige, MCU boss] will make that announcement, I’m sure pretty soon.”

Valkyrie seems like the most obvious guess, as it was hinted that she might be bisexual in a scene that was ultimately cut from Thor: Ragnarok. There has also been some speculation that it might be Captain Marvel, but, really, there are numerous possibilities.

Who do you guys think Russo is referring to here? Drop us a comment down below.

Well it's probably not Hawkeye.

I'm a little torn on the potential of Carol coming out as gay.

On the one hand, it is a departure from the source material and completely changes her character, especially if it becomes a central theme of her character. Not bad, bit certainly a departure.

On the other hand, this possibility has mobilized an energetic fanbase. Just walking out of Endgame and Captain Marvel, I heard excited moviegoers talking about this as a positive.

What sort of response have you seen from fans?

@TheRose - People seem to be pretty mixed already with her. In a lot of comments on Youtube and Facebook that are people that really hate the character, sometimes also the actress. Making such a big departure from the comics would probably not be a good move.

@Urubrodi - Very true with online comments, but that’s just a vocal minority in my opinion.
