When Avengers: Endgame tickets went on sale this morning, the movie ended up selling three times more tickets in the first hour of pre-sales than Avengers: Infinity War did around this time last year, crashing several websites in the process. Now, reports are coming in that the Marvel Studios epic has set an even more impressive record.

According to Fandango, Endgame has shattered the best first day U.S. presales record previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens - and it did it in just 6 hours.

This is not entirety surprising when you take into account that the Infinity War follow-up is arguably (and really, who'd argue?) the most highly-anticipated superhero movie of all time, and that unprecedented $800 million opening weekend is looking more and more like a strong possibility.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo responded to the update via Twitter.

@MyCoolYoung - I got them for Tuesday instead. My heart is shattered but my pride was stronger. I will never sit in ROW A again in my life. I want to experience this godly film with a good view point and with my crew. There are 8 of us and we will get to see the film together.....Whatever it takes.

@SonOfAGif - Still not to late. ALL MOVIE theaters will add showings as it gets close to opening day. Friday Saturday Sunday.

They will be offering showing from 9 a.m. every half hour on the hour. to midnight

@DoubleD - Yeah this is just a presale. A buddy of mine was saying that he overheard an AMC Dine-In Employee stating that they may have 7am showings and introduce a limited time breakfast/brunch menu to capitalize on the films sell outs for Saturday and Sunday showings. I hope so.

@NotoriousWolf23 - I had to be up at 5am PST for PT this morning and there were so many issues with websites and apps crashing. But when I got my tickets, I picked a less popular theater and had absolutely no trouble getting tickets. IMAX Thursday 6pm, with great seats.
