Charles Roven Believes Ben Affleck WILL Star In THE BATMAN; Teases Joss Whedon's BATGIRL

When Warner Bros. gave Geoff Johns and Jon Berg were given a greater role in overseeing the DC Films Universe, longtime producer Charles Roven was removed from a number of upcoming adaptations for reasons unknown. He's still involved in Wonder Woman and Justice League, though, and in a recent interview with JoBlo he weighed in on where things stand with Ben Affleck and The Batman

"I mean, I’m not really involved with The Batman," he confirmed before adding: "We have a cursory involvement because that character is going to touch us some way. If Ben plays that character it’s going to touch some part of what we are doing. But I have no feeling whatsoever except positive that Matt loves Ben and the work that he has done as Batman, and Ben thinks that Matt is a really terrific filmmaker. I have every expectation that they are going to make a movie together."

That's a mostly positive update then, but it still wouldn't be surprising if The Batman doesn't happen at this point. It seems to be a case of having to wait and see, but with cameras unlikely to start rolling until 2018, this is one comic book adaptation we'll have to be patient about, that's for sure.

As for Joss Whedon's Batgirl movie, that's another one Roven isn't involved in, but he did at least offer some insight in getting Joss Whedon to make the leap from the Marvel to DC Universe. "I’m really a big fan of Joss Whedon as a filmmaker. I think it’s great that he is involved with the DCEU right now. I’ve been trying to get into business with him for a really long time. Up until a few years
ago he was involved with Marvel and then when he left he didn’t want to think about it for awhile."

What do you guys think of these comments? Be sure to let us know that in the usual place.

@DCRISEN0609 - At this point, I think Affleck coming back to do Batman is 60%. My sense is he wants to be certain his Batman would be in a film that is absolutely top quality from a direction and story perspective, not just visuals. I think he will come around and do it again.

Now it's even a question if Ben Affleck will star in the movie? Man between this movie and The Flash the DCEU has some rocky waters to navigate. Hopefully Wonder Woman will do well enough to boost it's momentum.
