The first trailer for Spike TV and director Derik Murray's upcoming doc about the life of Heath Ledger has been released, and it promises an intimate portrait of the immensely talented star, who tragically passed away back in 2008 not long after completing work on Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.

Ledger notched up quite a few memorable roles over the course of his career, but he will go down in history for his iconic take on The Joker in that film.

I Am Heath Ledger will have its world premiere April 23 at Tribeca, before airing on Spike TV May 17.

Not trying to be funny but the title of this documentary should be "Heath ledger: why so serious?" that would be such a perfect title

@BlackBeltJones - The most iconic of CBM characters.

@Forthas - Reeve's Superman, West's Batman, Maguire's Spider-Man, Carter's Wonder Woman, Ledger's Joker, Jackman's Wolverine, and Downey Jr.'s Iron Man are THE iconic superheroes.

Not saying the best (in the case of West, specifically), but the most recognizable for damn sure.

@BillMurray -well, considering Jackman and Downey JR are the only people to ever portray their respective characters, I would hope they would be the most recognizable ;)

@TheScatman - Well, yeah. You know what I mean, though. They made the characters for their era. Nicholas Hammond was the first Spider-Man, but he wasn't exactly memorable in the role.

I always wonder what the 3rd movie in the trilogy would've been like if he were still alive.
