THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Comments On The Possibility Of A CATWOMAN TV Series Or Movie

The Batman director Matt Reeves has weighed in on the chances of Catwoman getting her own spinoff movie or TV show, explaining why he's currently focused on launching this fresh take on Gotham City...

We know that The Batman spinoffs revolving around Gotham City P.D. and The Penguin are in the works for HBO Max, but there's been a lot of chatter online among fans about a possible series focusing on Catwoman. Selina Kyle's story would arguably make for more interesting viewing than Oswald Cobblepot's, but it appears the plan is to tell Carwoman's origin over the course of a trilogy.

Talking during a recent press event, director Matt Reeves was asked about the future of Zoe Kravitz's cat burglar, and explained why he's more focused on launching this world before expanding it.

"You should really talk to the HBO Max reps! I mean, look, what we're really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas we want to do and sure we want Selina to continue," the filmmaker teased. "Their relationship and what they are to each other is, to me, that's the heart of the movie is the push-pull between the two of them and the way that she's going to evolve and where all of that will go so, we're talking about a lot of things."

"Of course, we're talking about a lot of things but we're about to release this movie and it really comes down to how people receive it," Reeves added, presumably referring to the rumoured spinoffs.

It makes sense that Warner Bros. wants to see how audiences react to The Batman before becoming too ambitious with these plans to expand Gotham City, though we'd bet the shows we know about are already taking shape. Getting any details out of Reeves at this point might be expecting a little much, especially as he no doubt wants to keep the focus on this movie right now.

Something tells us Kravitz has a bright future as Catwoman, though, so a spinoff might not be off the table (regardless of whether it's on the big or small screen).

The Batman is set to be released exclusively in theaters on March 4.

That's what we should be getting instead of GCPD or Penguin.

@regularmovieguy - A show about the gcpd going after the b/c list villains like zasz, pyg, the ventriloquist or film freak could be something else, hell, have Paul Dano helping the departament Black List style and You have a sure hit

A Catwoman show makes a whole lot more sense than a Penguin show.

I think the chemistry between these two is going to be incredible, and probably one of the highlights of the movie.

I have a feeling that Zoe's Catwoman is going to become a bit of a fan favourite.

Two spin-offs were already announced. Zoë Kravitz is apparently scheduled to direct her first movie this summer. But hopefully they'll announce plans for solo Catwoman content, not too long after The Batman succeeds. Zoë's clearly gonna crush it.

Could explore Selina’s family

If she isnt a Falcone they could go with her new 52 father Rex “The Lion” Calabrese

Everything is about the execution. A Penguin show in the style of Fargo would be very cool, so it's all dependent.

That said, I'm curious how Peacemaker is performing from a viewership stand point because the movie didn't do all that well considering. WB seems to rush to greenlight things. What if they build a foundation on a world that isn't well recieved?

She should be getting one instead of the cops

@BlackBeltJones

If the rumors are true it’s probably going to be the main vehicle for a certain villain.

I know. Really wish I hadn’t had that spoiled.

Feel like it’s the only thing I’m 100% certain that’s going to happen in the third act.

Yes please, expand this universe as much as you can, in between the sequels

Depending on how this movie turns out, I wouldn’t mind this. It’s gotta be better than the Halle Berry flick at least!

So is nothing going to exist within a set continuity anymore? Is WB going to keep making spinoffs and standalone projects while bringing in new actors to portray alternate versions of other characters over and over again? How many versions of Batman characters do we need before the audience gets tired of it?

@SonOfAGif

Spider-Man NWH just passed Avatar domestically. Batman ain’t going anywhere either.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 2/16/2022, 8:57 PM
@SonOfAGif - Well...yeah?
They learned their lesson, they are not capable of making a shared universe, and some people are already tired of having to watch three movies and five TV shows per year to keep up with a plot, so DC trying to do their own thing instead of trying to beat Marvel at being Marvel is the best scenario, imo

SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 2/16/2022, 9:22 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - But what WB is doing is placing what should be high quality productions on the CW and then choosing random lower quality characters into big budget productions.
regularmovieguy

@SonOfAGif

99% of the moviegoing audience doesn’t watch or even know what shows are on the CW. It’s always been a network for tweens. I used to watch 7th Heaven back in the day on that network, lol.

And the continuity in these movies isn’t so super connected that you miss out if you miss a project. Whether it’s DC or Marvel they’re going to make damn sure there’s enough exposition so that everyone knows what’s going on in the story.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 2/17/2022, 7:18 AM
@SonOfAGif - Which is not bad, imo.
You think Warner would greenlight a $200M Superman movie where 90% of it consist of him interacting with his family?
On the other hand, they are giving those $200M to people using D-listers, and since they are D-listers, Warner is letting directors take risks with them.
