THE BATMAN Fan-Art Features Catwoman, Jesse Eisenberg Misses Lex Luthor, A Riddler Reveal & More DC News

It's been a busy couple of days for DC news and we're now bringing you a roundup with some very cool Catwoman fan-art, new details about The Batman, and more from Jesse Eisenberg on Lex Luthor...

Over the past few days, we've been bringing you some roundups of Marvel movie news which aren't necessarily big enough to make an entire articles out of but still something we know you'll be interested in. However, we don't want DC fans to feel left out and, thankfully, there's now some great pieces we can share with you about everything going on in the DCEU.

The Batman most dominates things here as we learn more about The Riddler, see director Matt Reeves' reaction to Paul Dano playing the character, and even get some Catwoman fan-art!

We also have more from Jesse Eisenberg about Lex Luthor and Margot Robbie's Disney hopes.

There's a lot to delve into here so what are you waiting for? To check out all these great DC news bits, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below...

No, Josh Gad Isn't Playing The Penguin

Talks between Jonah Hill and Warner Bros. have broken down so the actor will not be playing The Penguin in The Batman after all (it sounds like he was far more interested in being The Riddler).

Surely, that leaves the door open to fan-favourite choice, Josh Gad, right?

Well, it certainly doesn't sound that way based on the Tweet above and, at this point, it seems like he's simply too obvious a choice to play the iconic DC Comics villain for the studio regardless.

Jesse Eisenberg Still Wants To Play Lex Luthor

Lexc

During a recent interview to promote Zombieland: Double Tap, Jesse Eisenberg told MovieWeb that he's still open to returning as Lex Luthor...despite the odds of that actually being fairly slim!

"Oh, 1000 percent. Which is not even… that’s ten pies. Ten full pies. Yeah, of course. Yeah. I loved it so much. I mean I was the shyest kid in the world. To get to play a mean character with flamboyance like that is exhilarating. I probably won’t do another. I don’t know if they’re making another one where I would be in it. But no, I loved it. It was great. I’m so happy I got to do it. Ever."

That closes the door on speculation about an Injustice League movie or something similar and it's clear now that Justice League's post-credits scene was really a tease for absolutely nothing.

Catwoman Fan-Art

We're more than likely still a long way off from getting a first look at any of the characters in The Batman but this very cool piece of fan-art offers at least an idea about what Zoe Kravitz could end up looking like suited up as Selina Kyle. There's certainly a lot of excitement to see the actress in the role and that costume reveal should be very interesting (fans are hoping for comic accuracy).

Congratulations From A Former Catwoman

Halle Berry played Catwoman in a critically panned solo outing which had little to nothing to do with the comic books. Despite that, the actress clearly still had fun playing the character (she's certainly not shying away from it) and is excited to see what Zoe Kravitz now brings to the table.

Needless to say, it's easy to imagine Kravitz having much, much better material to work with.

An Intriguing Change To The Riddler

Matt Reeves is clearly looking to previous Batman movies for inspiration as The Riddler will be known by Edward Nashton rather than Edward Nygma in The Batman. It could be that he's a major fan of Batman Forever but it seems more likely that he just wanted  a more realistic name.

After all, if this serves as The Riddler's origin story as well, it really wouldn't take the World's Greatest Detective long to figure out that the guy called E. Nygma is the one behind everything!

Margot Robbie Could Make The Leap From DC To Disney

Catwoman

Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie was recently featured in The Hollywood Reporter's 100 Most Powerful People in Entertainment list and among the questions they asked was what she would do if she got her hands on Disney CEO Bob Iger's cell phone. "I'd probably just return it to him and see what Disney IP I could get my hands on," she admitted, possibly making her interest in Disney known.

It would certainly be a lot of fun to see Robbie in a live-action Disney movie or possibly even something from Pixar. Despite her role as Harley Quinn, her appearing in the MCU would also be rad!

Matt Reeves Welcomes His Latest Casting Addition

Paul Dano is playing The Riddler and Matt Reeves has taken to Twitter to confirm the news and what we told you earlier about "Edward Nashton." The fact the filmmaker used that hashtag rather than #TheRiddler has to be an indication that we'll see his origin story play out here as well.

Time will tell on that front, though!

Thank God on the Josh Gad/Penguin news. I know Disney is in love with the guy but I think he's a bit overexposed, I find him pretty annoying in live action roles.

Jesse Eisenberg was good casting for Lex that was wasted by a shit screenplay and terrible direction. The Lex as a silicon valley trust fund kid analogue's been tainted for good, when they could have done some really interesting things with it

@tmp3 - I didn't understand the 'kid' choice at all. I like when Lex and Supes are contemporaries. Eisenberg's Lex had pretty loose motivations as to why he actually hated Superman. His father sounded more interesting.

@tmp3

I actually liked A LOT of Lex’s dialogue. Snyder’s direction or lack there of is really what brought him down for me. He needed to be reigned in a bit more.

Still love the whole rooftop scene from when he pushes Lois off to bringing Superman to his knees.

@regularmovieguy - Oh man, I hate that scene haha. Eisenberg played him like the Mad Hatter when he should have played him like Zuckerberg. Jesse wasn't even the first choice for the role, it was Joaquin - who said no flat - and then Adam Driver, who also passed.

@tmp3

I don’t this his performance is all that bad here but I totally think he should’ve played it a lot closer to Zuckerberg.

Apparently Driver had a scheduling conflict, probably with Star Wars or any of the how many projects he’s worked on since. Dude is a busy.

Yeah, that's one of the few scenes where i REALLY like him, the word-play is just all kinds of awesome to me, lil things that someone like Brian Azzarello would do. :)

I may be in the minority here, but... Margot Robbie as Sue Storm-Richards?

@pclark - @spock0clock suggested that too

@pclark - I was thinking the same thing, though I’d love to see Alice Eve take the role personally. She deserves a big break.

@Jhuntdaprodigy - Yeah, I have been rooting for Katheryn Winnick as Sue, but Margot or Alice or even Kristen Bell, Natalie Dormer or Perdita Weeks.

Edward Nashton is NOT an "Intriguing Change". If you read the comics, or did any research before you posted articles, you'd know that The Riddler went by this name in the comics for years. it was even once written that it was his actual real name, and he changed it to Edward Nigma (also written as "Nygma") for Pun Purposes.

There’s better fan art than that out there.

Josh, you God damned idiot.

For starts, Nashton is Riddler's real name, as others have mentioned.

Secondly, you mention him being a fan of Batman Forever for the name change....who was called Nygma. Another Wilding fail

Eisenberg casting is one of the worst.

Thank goodness no Gad as Oswald.

Hard to do any kind of multi-villain detective noir homage to Long Halloween without using some very over-exposed bat villains. Will they substitute or what?

LeonNova

Joker’s the only one I’d say is overexposed. I know Crane was in all 3 films of TDK trilogy, but a less Nolany take on him and Selena would be different enough to justify reusing them. Besides, I’m pretty sure neither of them are gonna be the main antagonist.
