We now have some details on the male and female leads of the upcoming HBO Max The Batman spinoff, which is tentatively titled "Gotham PD."
According to The Illuminerdi, the "lead female character is black, 35-45 years old, and a former detective who becomes the new Gotham District Attorney, while "the male lead is a 30-40 year old white police detective who works for Commissioner James Gordon."
Though there are obviously plenty of other possibilities, these breakdowns do sound a lot like Janice Porter and Marcus Driver, who were both introduced on the pages of Gotham Central. It's already been confirmed that this show will be at least partially inspired by the 2002 police procedural from Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka, but it sounds like it might be more closely based on the comic than we realized.
Director Matt Reeves has also confirmed that the prequel series will take place during "Year One" of the Dark Knight's reign as Gotham's protector, as a “masked vigilante…starts to unsettle the city”. The series will zero in on the corruption that “goes back many years,” and will be told from the POV of an unnamed crooked cop.
It's not known if Robert Pattinson will actually show up as The Caped Crusader, but Jeffrey Wright is expected to reprise his role as The Batman's Commissioner James Gordon. Colin Farrell (The Penguin) has been rumored to appear, but that's yet to be confirmed.
