Along with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Matt Reeves' The Batman is up there among the most highly-anticipated comic book movies of the past few years, and we now have a first look at some new footage courtesy of an international teaser shared by Warner Bros. Japan.
It's basically a truncated version of the trailer that debuted at DC FanDome last month, but there are a few new shots in there, as well as some new dialogue from Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) and The Riddler (Paul Dano).
Rumors that Eternals star Barry Keoghan will actually be playing The Joker recently picked up steam when THR revealed that WB has been testing two different cuts of the movie, "one with a certain actor, one without." The Irish actor wasn't mentioned by name, but this understandably sent speculation into overdrive.
You'll find no Joker hints in this teaser (or will you?), but there does appear to be an intriguing reveal relating to the dynamic between Batman and The Riddler! Give it a watch and let us know if you do notice anything interesting - but beware of potential spoilers.
"Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens."
“When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
The Batman also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin. The movie is set to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
