THE BATMAN: Mahershala Ali Was Originally Up For Jim Gordon; Jonah Hill's Role Still Up In The Air

A rumor did the rounds a while ago that Mahershala Ali had met with Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves about the role of Commissioner Jim Gordon in The Batman, and it looks like that's now been confirmed.

Last night, we learned that Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, The Hunger Games) was in final talks to play The Dark Knight's trusted ally, but Variety's Justin Kroll has now shared the following update.

From the sounds of things, Ali may have been forced to choose, and The Daywalker won out!

As for Jonah Hill, it seems there's so much confusion surrounding the role he's up for because it simply hasn't been decided yet. Collider's Jeff Sneider reckons Hill is dead set on playing The Riddler because he "has long admired Jim Carrey, and how he transitioned from comedies to more dramatic roles, which Jonah has also done with his career. Plus, Riddler in Forever not as iconic as Penguin in Returns, so easier to reinvent."

If that's accurate, can we assume that the studio and/or Reeves would rather he portrayed The Penguin?

We should get more details on this pretty soon, along with more casting news. The Batman is expected to commence production this summer.

Glad to see that Ali got Blade instead as he should be the lead rather than the Supporting role.
Cannot wait to see what he looks like as Blade.

Jonah Hill's probably not gonna be in it if he's actually asking for that much

I feel we'll be getting Catwoman news very soon. I'm honestly still lobbying for Vanessa Hudgens.

@KWilly - Bryan Cranston and Antonio Banderas were my pics for Gordan and if Banderas then I wanted Vanessa as Barbara Gordon.

SUDDENLY - In swoops Christian Bale. He kicks Pattinson in the stomach, with a mediocre bat stunt move and in a low, groggy, un-cleared throat of a voice proclaims... "I Am Batman!"

@Forthas cries uncontrollable tears of joy. "I always knew you'd be back," he sobs... "I always knew we could make it work!"

@Kman - That is one of my most pleasant dreams...you should look into those latent psychic abilities!

They could've had J.K. Simmons come back as Gordon.

They could've cast Bryan Cranston or William H. Macy as Gordon.

They could've followed the comics and had someone WHO ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE Gordon.

But Hollywood keeps going Woke and changing characters' races, gender and sexuality because "We NeEd DiVeRsItY & rEpReSeNtAtion!" It's not like Wright couldn't play Lucius Fox; it's not like Wright couldn't play a underused character: Crispus Allen.

Nope.

And Jonah Hill should play the Penguin. Give the Riddler role to Guy Pearce, David Tennant or Michael Emerson.
