A new interview has surfaced (courtesy of Vanity Fair France via Batman-News.com) with The Batman star Robert Pattinson in which he reveals his strategy for building a "nuanced" take on Batman/Bruce Wayne.
"I look first at the character and what I have to do with it, how I’m going to have to invent nuances in this shell, making it more complex, more complex all the time," said the Tenet actor. "Batman is a role in which I have to learn how to play ambiguity better. It’s out of the question to interpret a character of a single color."
"It’s beautiful, people who seem to live in two states at the same time. And then, imagine: you love to cook and after years you succeed in obtaining the perfect dish, the healthiest, the most balanced, the tastiest, the most subtle; would you honestly eat it at every meal? No! What would you secretly dream about? To make you a nice fat cheeseburger, ah ah ah ah."
It certainly sounds as if fans might be treated to a very different take on the Dark Knight mythos. As the first trailer revealed, even the physical look of Bruce Wayne in the pic has a rather unique aesthetic.
The Batman is currently filming on location in various parts of the U.K. It is slated to be released on March 04, 2022 following a series of COVID-19 related delays.
The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves from a script penned by Reeves and Peter Craig. Principal photography began in January 2020 in London under the working title Vengeance. Filming shifted to Liverpool in March 2020 just before the COVID-19 pandemic shut the production down. Reeves stated that approximately 1/4 of the film had been shot before the shutdown.
Filming resumed in July 2020, just before August's virtual DC FanDome event which unleashed the first teaser trailer for the film. In September, lead actor Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19, shutting down the production for two weeks. NBA bubble-like special restrictions on filming were implemented to allow the shoot to continue including the requirement that crew members live close to the production and not leave the surrounding community.
The Batman was originally scheduled for release on June 25, 2021 before being rescheduled for October 1, 2021 and subsequently, March 4, 2022. All delays were due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The film is planned as the first entry in a brand new Batman trilogy.
