THE PENGUIN: New Details About Sofia Falcone And Characters From BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN Revealed

There's a lot of excitement for The Penguin TV series coming to HBO Max, particularly as Oswald Cobblepot's story looks set to play out directly between the events of The Batman and its planned sequel. Lauren LeFranc has been tapped to serve as showrunner, and cameras are expected to begin rolling in the coming months.

The eight-episode spin-off will be the first of many small screen projects set in the world of The Batman, and The Illuminerdi has now shared details on some of the show's other villains.

In the wake of Carmine Falcone's death, we'll see Cristin Milioti's Sofia Falcone step into the spotlight. According to the site, she's only recently been released from Arkham Asylum after nearly a decade behind bars, and it was Oz who put her there.

He wants to take over Gotham City's underworld, but Sofia is out for revenge and "a bold, sharp villain whose next move is never predictable." It's said that "Sofia’s presence makes the entire room tense," while the site also confirms Selina Kyle (a.k.a. Catwoman) is her sister in this reality.

Alberto Falcone will also be a guest star in The Penguin, and we're sure you'll remember him from Batman: The Long Halloween. In the series, he's "an addict battling his demons, something that makes his job as the new head of the Falcone family quite difficult." A socialite, Alberto is "unprepared for his newfound responsibility in Gotham."

If Matt Reeves has plans to adapt The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, chances are there are big plans for the "Holiday Killer" moving forward. We're also going to see Milos Grapa, the tactful Consigliere of the Falcone Crime Family, and Johnny Viti, an ill-tempered cousin of the family.

In the comic books, Sofia also becomes a killer, taking on the identity of "The Hangman." Don't be surprised if this version of the character is also a murderer, particularly if she's been locked up in Arkham!

The Penguin doesn't currently have a premiere date.

I don't read comics but as far as I understand, elements of the Holiday Killer were already adapted in the Riddler, right?

@MV081199

Serial killer ✔️
Halloween /Holiday setting ✔️
Carmine Falcone is a target ✔️

Very broad strokes but there’s definitely some TLH influence. The actual holiday killer is much different than how the Riddler is portrayed though.

@MV081199 - He looks like Alberto too.

In the animated Long Halloween, he's basically a substitute for The Riddler. He's always doing puzzles and he gets Gilda Dent pregnant (which Riddler does in the comics). Also the Riddler is the only bat-villain that they cut out of the animated version.

I don’t need a mob/sparno style show set in Gotham if Batman isn’t even going to show up and kick all the morons asses… this sounds bad…

@TheMandalorian - How do you know Batman doesn’t make an appearance or two? I happen to think a show where Batman shows up periodically sounds interesting.

There are so many other stories to tell besides the cliche mob story. Yawn.

That description of Alberto is the complete opposite of who he is in the comics.

He's not a socialite who couldn't care less about the business, he's an overlooked, quiet-type who is always thinking about how to help the family business and wanting to be involved.

That's like Bizarro Falcone not Alberto Falcone.

Also, Paul Dano was basically Alberto in The Batman.
Not feeling the casting on Sofia either. She needs to be bigger. Way bigger.

If Sofia is a former patient at Arkham Asylum, they could establish a relationship between the calendar man and Sofia. A plan...
