THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Now Says An HBO Max Series Featuring Catwoman Has Been Discussed

The Batman director Matt Reeves has hinted that some sort of Catwoman spinoff isn't off the table, confirming he's at least spoken to HBO Max executives about a possible series. Read on for details...

The Batman hasn't even opened in theaters yet, but Warner Bros. is already moving ahead with two spinoffs set in Matt Reeves' "Batverse." The first will follow The Penguin's rise to power, while the second is going to take place in the corrupt halls of the Gotham City Police Department.

Earlier this week, Reeves played down speculation about a Catwoman spinoff, giving a "wait and see" type of answer. That changed during a recent press event, though, as he confirmed "I've talked to the HBO Max folks. What we're really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas for things we want to do, and for sure we want Selena to continue."

Just because the filmmaker has discussed the possibility of revisiting Selina Kyle on the small screen, doesn't necessarily mean a TV show is in the works. If anything, it's far more likely Catwoman's story will continue to play out in The Batman franchise across the course of Reeves' planned trilogy.

"Their relationship and what they are to each other...to me, that's the heart of the movie, is the push-pull between the two of them and the way that she's going to evolve, and where all of that will go," Reeves said of Batman's relationship with Catwoman. "We're talking about a lot of things, but all of it depends on...we're about to release this movie, and it comes down to how people receive it."

It's hard to imagine The Batman not being a hit at this stage, and there's a lot of positive buzz surrounding what Zoë Kravitz brings to the table as Selina. If a solo project is planned, then you have to believe it'll be a story better suited to the big screen, but as Reeves notes, nothing is confirmed yet.

The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.
