Along with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Matt Reeves' The Batman is up there among the most highly-anticipated comic book movies of the past few years, and we now have a first look at some new footage courtesy of an international teaser shared by Warner Bros. Japan.

It's basically a truncated version of the trailer that debuted at DC FanDome last month, but there are a few new shots in there, as well as some new dialogue from Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) and The Riddler (Paul Dano).

Rumors that Eternals star Barry Keoghan will actually be playing The Joker recently picked up steam when THR revealed that WB has been testing two different cuts of the movie, "one with a certain actor, one without." The Irish actor wasn't mentioned by name, but this understandably sent speculation into overdrive.

You'll find no Joker hints in this teaser (or will you?), but there does appear to be an intriguing reveal relating to the dynamic between Batman and The Riddler! Give it a watch and let us know if you do notice anything interesting - but beware of potential spoilers.

"Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens."

“When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

The Batman also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin. The movie is set to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.

That shot of him taking off his cowl at the end looks so [frick]ing cool

@tmp3 - Is no one going to mention that the prisoner at the end of the trailer is wearing an Arkham State Hospital uniform, and that's the same name of the place that Joaquin Phoenix's Joker ends up in at the end of the Joker movie?

And, no comic book has ever called Arkham by that name. So it's not something they pulled from a comic. They pulled that name from the Joker movie.

@CorndogBurglar - This is why they don't show the prisoner's face. It's pretty clear from the laugh that it's Joker. But the surprise is going to be that it's Joaquin Phoenix's Joker.

@CorndogBurglar - how then would you explain the two different Alfreds?

@bkmeijer - I don't have an answer for that. Good point. Maybe it's a case of the fact that they weren't sure what direction this Batman was going in back when development was going on with Joker? Because I believe it was still up in the air if The Batman would have Affleck or not. If so it would have been a totally different movie.

And if that's the case, maybe they weren't able to get the same actor from Joker?

That's 100% a guess I'm making up on the fly though.

@bkmeijer - Because it's too much of a coincidence. Why use the name of Arkham from Joker? Especially since it was never used in any source material? If Arkham State Hispital had appeared in comics before then that would examine it. But I couldn't find anything on Google that says that exact name has ever been in a comic.

Which means 1 of 2 things:

1. They made this name up for this movie and it just happened to be the same name from Joker. (Seems very unlikely)

2. They purposely used the same name from Joker for some reason.

@CorndogBurglar - I guess we'll see. Wouldn't mind it if Joker existed already in this universe, because then there would be a reason not to do the Joker again. Enough other rogues I wanna see too

That was cool, liked the shot of Bruce looking above and seeing Riddler but can't really see him because his face is being hiden by the light coming from outside the window.

His chuckle at the end is a nice detail as well.

The early test screenings keep saying the same thing, that this movie is legitimately scary. Like Batman is a walking horror show, and I love that immensely

@tmp3 - Absolutely. Pattinson has a great face for the cowl, and it’s probably also because he doesn’t look like he’s encased in an inch of stiff rubber, with an enclosed nose and tiny little mouth hole. In fact, nothing on that suit looks like it’s made of rubber. All I see is metal and leather covering heavy duty fabric, with pretty much a full range of motion. It’s the most “realistic-looking” bat-suit by a wide margin, while also somehow feeling more like the comic book character than anything I’ve ever seen in live action.

I guess we ignore how Batman killed that thug in the trailer? Pounding someone in the face 10x = dead.
