After a relatively quiet January for new movies, all eyes are on The Batman to see if it can replicate the unprecedented box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home in this "pandemic era."
Warner Bros. is definitely ramping up its marketing campaign, and a new TV spot features a very interesting exchange between the Caped Crusader and gangster Carmine Falcone. He doesn't appear remotely intimidated by the vigilante, and isn't at all impressed by the cape or cowl.
Some new international banners and posters have also surfaced, with one offering a closer look at Batman standing tall in front of his badass new Batmobile. It's a great piece of imagery, which instantly conjures up memories of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's Batman: Year One. That comic appears to be a major inspiration here for a story we know takes place in "Year Two."
There's also a stellar shot of the Dark Knight and the redesigned cowl he'll don in this upcoming movie.
The Batman finds the Caped Crusader in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.
Joining Pattinson in the star-studded ensemble are Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel; Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis as Alfred; and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot.
The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.
