THE BATMAN: Warner Bros. Reportedly Gives Sequel The Green Light

We're a little over 10 days away from the next trailer for The Batman being released, and a new report claims that Warner Bros. has now given a sequel to Matt Reeves' movie the green light. Check it out...

Warner Bros. clearly has big plans for The Batman franchise. A spinoff focusing on the Gotham City Police Department is coming to HBO Max, while the trades recently reported that The Penguin will also get his own series (so, basically FOX's Gotham split into two different shows).

It's no great surprise that the studio is keen to put the spotlight back on the Dark Knight, and "scooper" Daniel Richtman is now claiming that a sequel recently received the green light. Batman on Film claims to have confirmed the news, but until the trades weigh in with something a little more concrete, it's obviously best to take this with a pinch of salt.

There have been rumblings since pretty much day one that Matt Reeves would take the helm of a trilogy of Batman movies, and it's possible an official sequel announcement will be made at DC FanDome.

We're getting the second trailer for The Batman at that virtual event, so excitement for the DC Comics adaptation is bound to increase once that sneak peek arrives. Richtman has previously claimed that at least two more spinoffs are in the works, so if you're a Batman fan, it sounds like there's going to be plenty of movies and TV shows revolving around the Caped Crusader's world to look forward to.

Of course, many fans will be frustrated to learn that Batman is going to continue to receive so much of the spotlight, especially when there's such a huge number of DC characters who continue to be sidelined. The vigilante is still a huge draw for Warner Bros., though, so expect him to remain a priority moving forward.

The Batman is set to be released exclusively in theaters on March 4, 2022.
