There's a lot of excitement for The Penguin TV series coming to HBO Max, particularly as Oswald Cobblepot's story looks set to play out directly between the events of The Batman and its planned sequel. Lauren LeFranc has been tapped to serve as showrunner, and cameras are expected to begin rolling in the coming months.
The eight-episode spin-off will be the first of many small screen projects set in the world of The Batman, and The Illuminerdi has now shared details on some of the show's other villains.
In the wake of Carmine Falcone's death, we'll see Cristin Milioti's Sofia Falcone step into the spotlight. According to the site, she's only recently been released from Arkham Asylum after nearly a decade behind bars, and it was Oz who put her there.
He wants to take over Gotham City's underworld, but Sofia is out for revenge and "a bold, sharp villain whose next move is never predictable." It's said that "Sofia’s presence makes the entire room tense," while the site also confirms Selina Kyle (a.k.a. Catwoman) is her sister in this reality.
Alberto Falcone will also be a guest star in The Penguin, and we're sure you'll remember him from Batman: The Long Halloween. In the series, he's "an addict battling his demons, something that makes his job as the new head of the Falcone family quite difficult." A socialite, Alberto is "unprepared for his newfound responsibility in Gotham."
If Matt Reeves has plans to adapt The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, chances are there are big plans for the "Holiday Killer" moving forward. We're also going to see Milos Grapa, the tactful Consigliere of the Falcone Crime Family, and Johnny Viti, an ill-tempered cousin of the family.
In the comic books, Sofia also becomes a killer, taking on the identity of "The Hangman." Don't be surprised if this version of the character is also a murderer, particularly if she's been locked up in Arkham!
The Penguin doesn't currently have a premiere date.
