BIRDS OF PREY Actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead Comments On Landing The Role Of Huntress
Earlier this week, news broke that Mary Elizabeth Winstead had been cast as Helena Bertinelli, aka Huntress, in Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey movie, and now the Fargo actress has confirmed her involvement...
Following trade reports that Mary Elizabeth Winstead had signed on to play Huntress in the untitled Birds of Prey movie, the All About Nina star confirmed her involvement with the DC project during an interview with The Wrap.
Winstead says she's looking forward to beginning her bow and arrow training to better portray the ruthless vigilante, but admits that she wasn't much of a comic book fan before landing the role.
“I can’t say that I was a huge comic book reader, but when I met with Cathy Yan, who’s directing the film, and learned kind of the back story of the character, I was really interested,” added the actress. “It’s a really strong, kind of emotional place to start from for a superhero character. I won’t go into too much detail now, but I think it’s interesting and an opportunity to do something cool with this kind of character,”
In a separate interview with Observer, Winstead was asked about the rumor that Batman would not be a part of the story because he's been missing from Gotham City for two years. “Right,” she replied with a smile. “I will not go there, but I appreciate the attempt."
Winstead will be joined by Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. Birds of Prey is set to fly into theaters on February 7, 2020.
