Margot Robbie To Re-Team With BIRDS OF PREY Writer For New PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Movie

We'd heard rumors of a female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean movie in the works, and it's now been confirmed that Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie will take the lead with Christina Hodson writing...

Margot Robbie is set to sale the seven seas for Disney's female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which is said to be completely separate from the reboot that's in the works with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and previous Pirates movies writer Ted Elliot.

According to THR, the Academy Award-Nominated Harley Quinn actress will re-team with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, who has been hired to pen the script.

Apparently, the project is "a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker," and is not being developed as a spinoff of the block-busting franchise featuring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. So, if this is a reboot, and Mazin's movie is a reboot, we're getting... two separate Pirates reboots?

At any rate, plot details are still hidden away in Davey Jones' locker, but there's speculation that Robbie could be playing Redd - the popular meet-and-greet character from the Disney Parks attraction.

Longtime Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer is attached to produce both this and the Elliot/Mazin project.

What do you guys make of this news? Up for a Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Margot Robbie? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

That’s cool. I could go for some more pirate movies. I don’t think reboot actually means reboot anymore though. Not to these producer types.

Havent been a fan of the Pirates franchise in a long time, but it is successful.

If they arent going to give Johnny Depp his job back, it really is time to fire Amber Heard from Aquaman 2. For one thing there is a lot more proof against Heard than there was against Depp

why not just make it a new movie. Dont like it the franchise either way, but there is no reason to fire johnny depp

@Ha1frican - Yeah, Depp IS Pirates of the Caribbean. Birds sucked and I'm getting tired of Robbie tbh.

This is the first time I hear about the rumors of doing a female fronted spin-off. And I don't who this Redd character is either.

Hopefully they pick up what they learned from BoP to deliver a better film.

Reboots? They’re pirates. Boots come with the job. Where’s Peter Sarsgaard?

I'd like to see Rockstar develop a Pirates game just like RDR.

@MCUKnight11 - I still to this day am disappointed Disney cancelled their Pirates of the Caribbean game.

It was to be an open ended game, like the Elder Scrolls games, but gameplay like Fable.

Disney cancelled it because it was going to be M and they didn't want to bring out a M game. I think the official title was Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned, I could be wrong though.

There is huge potential for a pirate game and it is crazy no one has really done it.

Does anyone really care about PoTC without Jack Sparrow?

@RageDriver2401 - His shtick was getting seriously old and Depp was on autopilot in the fifth movie.

Fresh ideas, new interesting lead character and a fun Pirate adventure set-up? Yes, please.

@FinnishDude - new interesting lead, yes, but keep depp there as well. he is what the whole franchise for better or worse is about.

Margot is a likable lead and I can see her play a spunky free-spirited pirate gal. Hopefully they write a character that isn't Harley Quinn 2.0. Hopefully Depp can get at least a cameo. He's the face, heart, and soul of the franchise.
