This October, a number of acclaimed writers and artists throughout the comic book industry will come together to highlight the rich tapestry of the Black Panther's homeland like never before in Wakanda, a brand-new limited series.

Spinning out of recent events in John Ridley's epic Black Panther run, T'Challa is no longer welcome in the land he once ruled. Who is this proud nation without its king? This exciting new miniseries answers that question and more as each issue spotlights a different Wakandan character as they rise up to protect their great nation in exciting new stories by a wide range of creators.

In Wakanda #1, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Paco Medina will start things off with an in-depth tale about T'Challa's genius younger sister and former Black Panther, Shuri. Shuri proves that being without the Black Panther doesn't mean Wakanda is without heroes to protect it - and that there is a reason she too once wielded the power.

"I’ve been such a huge fan of the Black Panther over the years, especially the evolution and expansion of the women of Wakanda," Williams says. "It’s truly an honor to kick off the new series with the Shuri story I wrote. I hope I can add to her and Wakanda’s already impressive lore."

Each issue of Wakanda will also contain a "History of the Black Panthers" backup story by writer Evan Narcisse and artist Natacha Bustos, providing for the first time anywhere a definitive overview of all the Wakandans who have held the mantle of the Black Panther.

"I've been a fan of the charm and scale of Natacha Bustos' work for a long time and am thrilled to collaborate with her on a new look at Wakanda's history," Narcisse notes. "The tale we're telling will give readers a deeper look at how the Black Panthers of the past led the Unconquered Realm to glory and left a wondrous legacy that Emperor T'Challa still embodies."

The first issue of Wakanda arrives on October 12, meaning the series launches right in time for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's release in theaters the following month. Check out some cover art below by Mateus Manhanni, Stanley "Artgerm" Lau, and Nic Klein.

I understand the need to have Black Panther absent in the movie sequel, but in the comics??

Oh well. Maybe I should see it as them giving us more instead of less as he's still alive there. Just exiled.

@UnderBelly -
Disney needed to kill off Black Panther to replace with a female version sooner or later, his death was advantageous for them.

Oh great. We're going full on with making killmonger into a hero. Guess we're gonna just gloss over him passing the blame of his father's death onto tchalla despite him knowing nothing about it. Or tricking a woman into loving him knowing full well he was gonna murder her later. Or his solution to the history of racial discrimination is to essentially start ww3.

But no, he had a point so he can't be a villain.

Here come the complaints. But Wakanda has various interesting layers. I’ll give it a shot.

What is this tripe...? Also wtf is up with her face...Looks like she had a stroke.

No thanks. Wakanda ran by some villainous A-holes nah, keep it.

They need to stop trying to get rid of T'challa just because Marvel hasn't recast the character and said that they won't, another HUGE mistake by Marvel Studios that the comics shouldn't double down on.

Killmonger inclusión in this worries me about bp2, and it seems they're cornered themselves with the incursions

@Dannywest -
Remember how when Black Panther was released, people were supporting Kilmonger despite him wanting to genocide a majority of the world and kill everyone who was related to colonizers? Remember how people made videos claiming he was the hero?

Well the director and studio took that literally and are probably going to find a way to bring him back.

@Scarilian - They are trying to slowly kill off T'challa in the comics too as you can see...That's disgusting.

I’ll give this a shot, not the first or last time they’ve done stories about wakanda where BP is either not part of the village or they just on other people considering it’s a nAtion for all those bitching above.

Don’t even read BP but just jump on this cause they’re miserable

How many stories do they need of T'Challa being exiled? 🙄

@RitoRevolto - Or Thor becoming "unworthy" or exiled as well..LOL

Remove T'Challa from Wakanda in the comics,so people will except him not being in Black Panther 2.

Shit idea,people want to buy and read T'Challa stories not the supporting characters.

Stan Lee & Jack Kirby would be churning in their graves.

This trend of removing/replacing/killing off characters just to follow movie events is why i stopped buying comics. Or generally just mirroring events in favour of the movies instead of being an media of it's own.

Most of the MCU moviegoers don't even read or know the comics anyways..
